Coiling Technician

The Coiling Technician is responsible for operating machinery to wind, measure, cut, and package wire rope or cable products according to production specifications. This position ensures product quality, accuracy of lengths, and safe handling of heavy spools and coils in accordance with company standards and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate a winding machines and related equipment to coil and spool wire rope to specified lengths and diameters.
• Set up and adjust machines, tension controls, and guides to ensure consistent and accurate winding.
• Inspect wire rope for defects, kinks, or damage before and after winding.
• Measure and verify lengths using calibrated measuring devices and record production data.
• Apply tags, labels, or markings to finished products according to job orders.
• Load and unload reels, drums, or spools using hoists, cranes, or forklifts as required.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S and safety procedures.
• Perform minor maintenance and lubrication of winding machinery and report any mechanical issues.
• Follow all company safety policies, including the use of PPE and safe material-handling practices.
• Assist with other production or warehouse tasks as needed.

Requirements

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
• 1–2 years of experience in a manufacturing, cable, or wire rope environment preferred.
• Experience operating winding or coiling machinery a plus.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to read and interpret job orders, production sheets, and measuring devices.
• Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) safely.
• Forklift certification or ability to become certified.
• Strong focus on quality and safety.
