About this job
Job Description
TJ Inspection is hiring a Business Applications & Data Integration Developer to maintain and improve the systems that support our daily operations.
Most of our applications are built in Quickbase. Previous Quickbase experience is helpful, but it is not required. We welcome applicants who have worked with Power Apps, Salesforce, other low-code platforms, or custom business applications and are willing to learn Quickbase.
The work involves developing applications, maintaining integrations, and helping employees resolve problems with the tools they use. We are also exploring Microsoft Power Platform for future projects.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain Quickbase applications, including tables, relationships, forms, reports, and dashboards.
- Write and troubleshoot formulas and business rules.
- Create automated workflows using Quickbase Pipelines and other integration tools.
- Configure application roles and permissions.
- Connect Quickbase with other systems through REST APIs.
- Address duplicate records, missing information, and problems with how data is structured.
- Use SQL to query and validate data in connected databases.
- Use scripting when needed for integrations or data processing.
- Investigate application errors, failed automations, and discrepancies between systems.
- Work with employees to understand their processes and define requirements.
- Test changes before release and document how applications and integrations work.
- Provide user support and explain new functionality.
- Help evaluate potential uses for Power Apps, Power Automate, and other tools.
Required Skills
- Experience developing and supporting business applications, whether through a low-code platform or traditional software development.
- Understanding of relational databases, including tables, keys, and one-to-many and many-to-many relationships.
- Experience building forms, validation rules, and workflows that support a business process.
- Experience creating automations that move data or trigger actions between systems.
- Working knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, and authentication.
- Working knowledge of SQL.
- Ability to investigate unfamiliar applications and follow how data moves through them.
- Ability to gather requirements from non-technical employees and explain proposed changes.
- Willingness to learn Quickbase and take responsibility for assigned application development and support work.
Skills That Would Be a Major Plus
Experience with the following would be helpful, but is not required:
- Quickbase, including application development, formulas, relationships, and Pipelines.
- Microsoft Power Apps, Power Automate, or Dataverse.
- Other business application platforms, such as Salesforce, AppSheet, or Mendix.
- Power BI and Power Query.
- JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Python for automation and data processing.
- SQL Server or other relational database systems.
- Data migrations and ETL processes.
- Git or other version control tools.
- Systems used for field operations, timekeeping, equipment tracking, or billing.
What We’re Looking For
You should understand how to organize data and build an application around a business process. For example, you should be able to decide how records need to relate to one another, where information should be entered, and what should happen when a record changes.
You’ll need to learn our existing applications and the reasons behind how they work. Some assignments will involve new development; others will involve tracking down a problem in an existing workflow.
This is a mid-level role with responsibility for assigned projects and ongoing support. We expect you to ask questions when requirements are unclear, test your changes, and keep documentation that another developer can use.
Education & Experience
- Three or more years of experience in business application development, workflow automation, data integration, or a related field preferred.
- Experience supporting applications used by employees or customers.
- Practical experience working with relational data and connecting systems.
- A degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
- During the interview, we’ll ask you to walk through an application or integration you worked on, explain how you structured the data, and discuss a problem you had to solve. Examples from platforms other than Quickbase are welcome.
