About the Role
A well-established manufacturing company in Anniston, AL is hiring an experienced Lead CNC Machinist to run its in-house machine shop. You'll be the senior hands-on machinist on the floor, leading the machining team, coordinating daily production, and keeping the shop safe, on schedule, and within quality standards.
This is a working lead role. We want a skilled CNC machinist who can guide and develop other machinists and also dive in to troubleshoot equipment, run setups, and support inspection.
What You'll Do
- Lead daily machine shop operations and direct machinists and operators
- Train, coach, and develop team members, and help with hiring, scheduling, and performance management
- Plan and prioritize production to meet schedules and customer requirements
- Set up and oversee CNC mills and lathes, including tooling, offsets, and machine adjustments
- Troubleshoot machining, quality, and equipment issues
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and work instructions
- Use and oversee CMM inspection to verify part dimensions and review results with machinists and quality staff
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and keep tooling and supplies stocked
- Reduce scrap and downtime and support continuous improvement
- Enforce safety policies and keep a clean, organized shop
Requirements
- 5+ years of CNC machining experience
- Hands-on CMM and dimensional inspection experience
- Strong CNC setup, tooling, offset, and troubleshooting skills
- Solid understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading
- Knowledge of precision measuring tools and inspection practices
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Commitment to safety and quality
- Previous lead or supervisory experience in a machine shop preferred
Preferred
- CNC programming or editing
- CMM programming or operation
- Experience machining castings or large components
- Lean manufacturing, ISO or other quality systems
- Experience leading multiple shifts or a larger team
