About this job
Job Description
We are looking for an associate attorney to join a litigation practice in San Francisco, California, where this role will support active matters from early case assessment through resolution. This opportunity is well suited for a licensed attorney who wants to build hands-on litigation experience, strengthen courtroom and advocacy skills, and take on growing ownership of casework while collaborating closely with experienced legal professionals. The position offers meaningful exposure to client strategy, written advocacy, discovery practice, and dispute resolution in a fast-paced legal environment.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare a wide range of litigation documents, including initial filings, responsive pleadings, motions, and supporting memoranda, with accuracy and strategic focus.
• Perform in-depth legal research and translate findings into practical recommendations that inform case direction and argument development.
• Handle written discovery by drafting requests, reviewing responses, and formulating objections or supplemental materials as needed.
• Participate in witness and party depositions, including preparation, questioning, and defense responsibilities based on experience level and case needs.
• Serve as a point of contact for clients, opposing counsel, subject-matter experts, and witnesses while maintaining clear and effective communication.
• Support court-facing activities by preparing for hearings, attending case management conferences, and appearing in other proceedings when appropriate.
• Contribute to mediations, arbitrations, and trial preparation by assisting with strategy, evidence organization, and advocacy support.
• Analyze liability, defenses, damages exposure, and settlement options to help shape thoughtful litigation and resolution strategies.
• Track deadlines, maintain orderly matter documentation, and ensure case files remain current and well managed throughout the litigation lifecycle.
• Develop practical approaches to disputes that align legal strategy with strong client service and favorable outcomes.
• Active California State Bar membership in good standing and at least 1 year of relevant legal experience.
• Background in civil litigation with familiarity across pleadings, motion practice, and discovery procedures.
• Demonstrated strength in legal writing, research, and critical analysis.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and keep case materials organized in a detailed and reliable manner.
• Confidence and sound judgment when interacting directly with clients and opposing counsel.
• Professionalism, integrity, and a solutions-focused approach to legal representation.
• Capacity to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative legal team.
• Prior exposure to depositions, hearings, mediation, or trial work is valued, though candidates with strong interest in developing these skills are encouraged to apply.
