Journeyman Electrician/1st class
Job Summary
Core Group Resources is hiring experienced Electrician Test Specialists for a major U.S. Navy shipbuilding client. You'll verify that the electrical systems on some of the most advanced ships in the fleet perform exactly as designed. That includes testing circuits, troubleshooting power distribution, and validating high-voltage equipment and complex electronic systems.
Test electricians are the final checkpoint before a ship's electrical systems are considered ready, so the work directly supports the safety, reliability, and long-term performance of Navy vessels.
Responsibilities
- Test, verify, and troubleshoot shipboard electrical systems through every phase of construction.
- Perform phoning, circuit continuity checks, and functional testing of power and lighting systems.
- Operate electrical test equipment and interpret the results, including voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, megohmmeters, and power analyzers.
- Test and validate 480V and 4160V power distribution equipment.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and verify motor controls, transformers, power panels, switchboards, and PLC-based control systems.
- Support testing of electronic and fiber-optic systems, including radar, sonar, communications, propulsion, and navigation.
- Read marine blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals to carry out accurate test procedures.
- Work safely in an active shipyard environment, including at heights, in confined spaces, and in variable conditions.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in the marine, shipyard, or industrial electrical field.
- Proven experience testing and troubleshooting shipboard or industrial electrical systems.
- Ability to read marine drawings, blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams using both metric and standard measurements.
- Working knowledge of electrical diagnostic equipment and safe testing practices.
- High school diploma or GED.
Preferred Requirements
- Hands-on experience with voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, megohmmeters, power analyzers, and other diagnostic equipment.
- Experience with 480V and 4160V electrical systems.
- Knowledge of motor controls, power panels, transformers, PLCs, and switchboards.
