Job Title: Quality Engineer
Job Description
The Quality Engineer works within the RMA (Return Material Authorization) group and focuses on improving the quality of SMT and electronic assembly processes. This role collaborates closely with Production teams and overseas counterparts to investigate and resolve quality issues, drive defect cost reductions, and enhance overall manufacturing performance. The position involves hands-on troubleshooting of electronic components, detailed failure analysis, and the use of structured problem-solving methodologies to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
Responsibilities
- Work within the RMA group to analyze returned electronic components and determine causes of failure.
- Collaborate with Production and international engineering teams to investigate and resolve quality issues in SMT and electronic assembly processes.
- Perform detailed circuit troubleshooting and electronic failure analysis to identify the source of defects.
- Use oscilloscopes and other electronic test equipment to conduct circuit testing, circuit analysis, and diagnostic evaluations.
- Lead and support PPAP activities, containment actions, and corrective action processes to address quality problems.
- Apply 8D and 5 Why problem-solving methodologies to perform root cause analysis and establish robust countermeasures.
- Develop and update work instructions and documentation to improve process consistency and product quality.
- Prepare clear, detailed reports summarizing analysis, findings, and recommended solutions for internal stakeholders and customers.
- Address component issues by working with suppliers and internal teams to resolve quality concerns and prevent recurrence.
- Provide excellent customer service through professional written and verbal communication regarding quality issues and resolutions.
- Drive cost reduction initiatives related to defects by improving processes and reducing failure rates.
- Support the development and maintenance of quality plans, control plans, and other automotive or industrial manufacturing documentation as needed.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance product reliability and manufacturing efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards and procedures in a clean room, climate-controlled manufacturing environment.
- Work in a fast-paced environment where daily tasks and challenges vary, requiring adaptability and proactive problem solving.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong knowledge of electrical and electronics principles, particularly in relation to SMT and electronic assembly processes.
- Hands-on experience and proficiency using an oscilloscope for electronic testing and failure analysis.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical blueprints accurately.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for circuits, electronic components, and control units.
- Experience conducting root cause analysis using structured methodologies such as 8D and 5 Why.
- Demonstrated ability to issue, implement, and follow up on corrective actions and containment activities.
- Excellent customer service skills with strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to perform circuit testing, circuit analysis, and problem solving in a manufacturing environment.
- Attention to detail and ability to write clear, detailed technical reports and work instructions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in automotive quality environments.
- Quality experience with automotive OEMs such as Honda, Nissan, or other major manufacturers.
- General working knowledge of automotive or industrial manufacturing practices and standards (AIAG, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plan, 8D).
- Experience in customer-facing quality engineering or technical support roles.
- Familiarity with electronic control units and under-the-hood automotive electronic components.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Interest in long-term employment with opportunities for growth through a contract-to-hire arrangement.
Work Environment
This is a contract-to-hire position intended for individuals seeking long-term employment. The role is based in a clean room, climate-controlled manufacturing facility focused on electronic control units for automotive applications. The environment is fast paced, with varied daily tasks and ongoing opportunities to tackle new and different challenges. Typical working hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with overtime required at times based on production and quality needs. The company provides a laptop for work use. On the production floor, safety shoes are required, with shoe covers available if needed. Smocks and hairnets are also required when entering production areas. The dress code consists of khakis or work pants and a polo shirt. The organization offers quarterly feedback, six holidays, and ten accrued PTO days over a 12-month contract, and emphasizes continuous improvement, professional development, and a collaborative culture in a flagship manufacturing facility.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $31.25 - $34.00/hr.
