About this job
Job Description
Help keep sophisticated mechanical test assets running at peak performance. In this sustaining-focused role, you’ll support, maintain, and continuously improve complex test infrastructure used to validate advanced energy systems. Your work ensures high-fidelity test stands remain operational, reliable, and truly representative of real‑world conditions.
You’ll engage with test environments that span thermal management, fluid handling, air handling, pumps, manifolds, and related subsystems used to evaluate cells, modules, and full system assemblies.
A week in the lifeFrom early triage on a misbehaving pump skid to refining a DAQ sensor integration with Controls, your days mix hands‑on troubleshooting with systematic root‑cause analysis, documentation, and cross‑functional collaboration. You’ll partner with Test Technicians to maximize uptime, align with Design Engineering to translate requirements into robust hardware, and constantly look for ways to increase stability and reliability—always with a sharp focus on safety.
Core responsibilities- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues across complex test rigs and stands.
- Lead root‑cause analyses on systems involving thermal management, fluid circuits, air handling/HVAC, and related equipment.
- Translate test requirements into rugged mechanical hardware and infrastructure with Design and Test Engineering.
- Work shoulder‑to‑shoulder with Test Technicians to sustain high uptime and resolve issues quickly.
- Collaborate with Electrical and Controls teams to integrate sensors, actuators, and data acquisition hardware.
- Track system performance and drive improvements to reliability, stability, and uptime.
- Ensure test assets accurately emulate intended operating conditions for validation activities.
- Create and maintain CAD models, BOMs, work instructions, and other technical documentation.
- Document troubleshooting steps, root causes, and corrective actions.
- Identify and retire technical debt within legacy and in‑service test infrastructure.
- Advance continuous improvement across equipment and mechanical systems.
- Champion safety when working with high‑power, pressurized, thermal, and chemical systems.
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years in mechanical engineering, sustaining engineering, mechanical design, or test equipment development.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or a comparable mechanical CAD platform.
- Hands‑on experience maintaining and troubleshooting complex mechanical systems.
- Background in manufacturing, testing, or production engineering environments.
- Experience developing or supporting production‑grade tools, equipment, or test fixtures.
- Knowledge of fluid systems, thermal management, pumps, fans, airflow, and related mechanics.
- Experience selecting and integrating sensors within electromechanical systems.
- Understanding of safety and compliance for high‑power, pressurized, or chemical systems.
- Strong root‑cause analysis and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to balance speed, rigor, and safety while troubleshooting.
- Clear communicator who collaborates effectively with mechanical, electrical, controls, and test teams.
- Background supporting batteries, energy storage, power systems, or complex electromechanical products.
- Experience with automated test equipment (ATE) and/or data acquisition systems.
- Work on thermal, fluid, pneumatic, or air‑handling systems.
- Creation and maintenance of work instructions, BOMs, and technical documentation.
- Experience in fast‑paced hardware development or manufacturing settings.
