Director of Catholic Music Ministries - Dover Air Force Base, Delaware - $50 per hour, commensurate with experience

Part-Time | Approximately 6 hours per week | 1099 Independent Contractor

Are you an experienced Catholic music leader who understands how music supports the flow and meaning of the Mass? Do you enjoy leading congregational worship, working with musicians and volunteers, and creating a welcoming worship environment?

The role

We are looking for a Director of Catholic Music Ministries to support Catholic worship services at Dover Air Force Base.

You will provide music direction for weekly Catholic Masses, rehearsals and additional services, working closely with the Lead Catholic Priest and Chapel team. The role includes one weekly rehearsal and two Catholic Mass performances, alongside preparation, setup and coordination duties. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct music and lead congregational singing during Catholic Mass.
  • Provide lead vocals and musical solos when required.
  • Coordinate and conduct at least one weekly rehearsal covering two Catholic Masses.
  • Work with the Catholic Priest to select appropriate music for each service.
  • Recruit, train and support volunteer musicians and choir members.
  • Coordinate setup and breakdown of musical equipment and worship spaces.
  • Arrive at least 30 minutes before services to ensure everything is prepared.
  • Maintain music plans, volunteer information and relevant program records.
  • Support special services, meetings and training when scheduled. 

The person

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has at least two years of experience leading music in a congregational worship setting.
  • Is proficient on piano and able to sight-read both traditional and contemporary worship music.
  • Is an active, practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of the Mass and Catholic liturgy.
  • Can provide a letter of good standing from their current pastor or church leadership.
  • Communicates confidently and works well with clergy, volunteers, military personnel and Chapel staff.
  • Is able to meet applicable background check and base-access requirements.
