Location: Gulfport, MS and its surrounding cities

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–6:00 PM

Pay: 22.00–26.00/hour, based on qualifications, experience, and location

We're seeking a Public Health Technician to support the Keesler Medical Group at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to military public health and preventive medicine programs while enjoying a consistent Monday–Friday schedule with no weekends or federal holidays.

What You'll Do


Core Public Health Duties

  • Perform epidemiological investigations, patient interviews, health education, and disease-control measures.
  • Monitor and support the rabies control program.
  • Assist with investigations of communicable disease outbreaks.
  • Collect, compile, monitor, and report epidemiological data.
  • Conduct food inspections in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Collect and ship food specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Evaluate inspection findings and complete required inspection records.
  • Conduct sanitation evaluations and determine compliance with applicable sanitary standards.
  • Identify and report sanitation deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist in evaluating risks for vector-borne disease transmission.
  • Collect and identify vector species and provide education regarding vector-borne disease prevention and control.
  • Perform occupational health assessments and/or occupational illness investigations.
  • Conduct duty-location surveys to identify potential health concerns and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide program training and track required occupational health activities.


Preventive Health & Military Readiness Duties

  • Perform Preventive Health Assessments (PHA).
  • Review fitness assessment surveys and patient medical records to obtain required health information.
  • Schedule patient visits when additional information or provider evaluation is required.
  • Determine whether patients require examination by a credentialed healthcare provider.
  • Perform deployment medical clearances in accordance with force health protection and applicable area-of-responsibility requirements.
  • Validate medical readiness requirements and pre-deployment health assessments.
  • Ensure deployment-specific immunizations and chemoprophylaxis requirements are completed.
  • Coordinate with clinics and unit deployment managers to resolve readiness discrepancies.
  • Deliver preventive health education and medical health-threat briefings.
  • Attend safety huddles and identify and report potential patient-safety concerns.
  • Participate in relevant meetings, public health training, and program activities.
  • Complete patient encounters using the electronic medical record system.
  • Monitor, track, and report open patient encounters.
  • Support front-desk operations, including in-person, telephone, virtual, and electronic messaging inquiries.


What You'll Need — Mandatory Qualifications


Education:

  • Associate degree in Nursing or another related educational program, such as Allied Health, Community Health, or Public Health, OR
  • Equivalent prior military training applicable to the position.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related medical, public health, community health, or nursing position; OR
  • Minimum of 4 years of prior military experience in a public health position.

Licensure:

  • N/A

Life Support Certification:

  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider certification is required and must be maintained throughout employment.

Security:

  • Must be able to successfully complete the required government background investigation/security clearance.
