Job Title: Quality Engineer Mechanical Focus
Job Description
The Quality Engineer develops, modifies, coordinates, and documents the implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of quality assurance programs and systems for mid-size projects. This role provides guidance in interpreting and adapting quality standards and government regulations, and collaborates closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure robust quality standards are in place. The position involves solving diverse and complex problems where data analysis and review of identifiable factors are critical, particularly in a manufacturing environment with mechanical and machined components.
Responsibilities
- Analyze design reliability and product quality to recommend process changes and enhancements that improve performance and reduce costs.
- Create or recommend design, dimensional, or manufacturing process changes to enhance product quality and optimize cost efficiency.
- Devise and implement methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
- Participate in functional testing and inspection of equipment and systems to verify conformance to specifications and quality standards.
- Audit quality systems to identify deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, and verify implementation of improvements.
- Implement solutions to complex quality problems occurring internally and at supplier or vendor facilities.
- Prepare statistical analysis reports, specifications, and other technical documents that support quality assurance activities and company objectives.
- Interpret and adapt quality standards and government regulations to meet project and product requirements.
- Provide limited project direction and guidance to other staff members involved in quality-related activities.
- Generate nonconformance reports, material rejection reports, and corrective action reports, and communicate final acceptance test reports to customers when required.
- Create, organize, and maintain files of all quality documentation and as-built information for each product.
- Utilize SAP systems daily to support Quality Department activities, including data entry, tracking, and reporting.
- Observe all applicable laws, regulations, and obligations whenever business is conducted on behalf of the company.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Perform other quality-related duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in engineering or a related discipline and five or more years of related experience, or a masters degree in engineering or a related discipline and three or more years of related experience; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Quality engineering experience with a strong focus on quality assurance, supplier quality, quality control, and quality management systems.
- Hands-on experience with ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management standards.
- Proficiency in root cause analysis and development of corrective action plans.
- Experience with inspection methods, quality management systems, and validation activities.
- Mechanical focus with experience related to manufacturing, fabrication, and complex machined components.
- Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Ability to apply a sound understanding of inspection methods to a variety of products and processes.
- Good knowledge of computer operations and common software applications used in quality engineering.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace-related quality engineering environments is desirable.
- Familiarity with risk management practices within quality management systems.
- Thorough understanding of government standards, operating procedures, and technical requirements is preferred.
- Experience with AS9100 and Department of Defense (DOD) quality assurance program requirements is desirable.
- Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement experience is beneficial.
- Ability to obtain and maintain secret-level security clearance is desired.
Work Environment
This position is based onsite at a manufacturing and engineering facility in Tupelo, Mississippi. The work environment involves close collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams, with regular interaction on the production floor and in office settings. The role includes daily use of SAP and other computer-based tools to support quality activities, as well as engagement with inspection and testing equipment used to evaluate complex machined components and fabricated parts. Work hours may occasionally extend beyond standard business hours to meet project deadlines, support testing activities, or address urgent quality issues. The environment emphasizes adherence to established safety procedures, quality standards, and government regulations, with a professional dress code appropriate for a manufacturing and engineering facility.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $36.73 - $61.46/hr.
