Location: Western Colorado
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Schedule: Exempt / Leadership Position
Salary: $126,880 – $145,912 per year, depending on education and experience


About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Labor & Delivery to provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for a community hospital's Labor, Delivery, Recovery & Postpartum (LDRP) department in beautiful Western Colorado.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced nurse leader who is passionate about maternal and newborn care, staff development, patient safety, and quality improvement. The Director will work closely with physicians, midwives, nursing teams, neonatal specialists, and hospital leadership to ensure safe, high-quality care and an exceptional patient and staff experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and operational oversight for the Labor & Delivery/LDRP department.
  • Ensure safe, high-quality, evidence-based care for mothers, newborns, and families.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, retention, coaching, mentoring, and professional development of nursing and clinical staff.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate staffing plans to meet patient care needs.
  • Monitor department performance, quality metrics, patient outcomes, and patient satisfaction.
  • Lead quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, physicians, certified nurse-midwives, neonatal teams, anesthesia, and other interdisciplinary departments.
  • Manage departmental resources, staffing, supplies, and budget effectively.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, professional growth, and compassionate patient care.
  • Participate in strategic planning and initiatives designed to improve maternal and newborn outcomes.
  • Support implementation of clinical standards, policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Serve as a visible and supportive leader for staff while maintaining a strong focus on patient-centered care.


Required Qualifications


Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required.


Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of Labor & Delivery clinical experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive nursing leadership or healthcare management experience.
  • Previous experience leading a Labor & Delivery, Women's Services, Maternal-Child Health, or LDRP department strongly preferred.


Licensure & Certifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado, or eligibility to obtain Colorado RN licensure.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required.
  • Additional maternal-child health, neonatal, or leadership certifications are preferred.


Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an experienced nurse executive or nurse leader with strong Labor & Delivery expertise, excellent communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to build high-performing teams. The successful candidate should be comfortable managing clinical operations, developing staff, working collaboratively with physicians and interdisciplinary teams, and driving quality and patient-safety initiatives.

Compensation & Additional Benefits


Annual Salary: $126,880 – $145,912, based on education, experience, and qualifications.
