Test Engineer III
Salary: Up to $120,000/year
We are seeking an experienced Test Engineer III to support automated test equipment (ATE), functional test stations, and product sustaining engineering within a manufacturing environment. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams and customers to establish test requirements, develop and improve test equipment and processes, troubleshoot product failures, and support manufacturing production goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow all ESD, board handling, and Moisture Sensitive Device (MSD/MSL) requirements.
- Install, develop, improve, and maintain customer-specific functional test stations and test programs.
- Support cross-functional teams and manufacturing operations with test requirements, equipment, troubleshooting, and process improvements.
- Expand, install, and maintain custom functional, ATE, ICT, and system-level testers.
- Develop and maintain Flying Probe test programs.
- Create and maintain tester documentation, procedures, fixtures, and test programs.
- Analyze tester capacity and manufacturing failure data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support production teams in achieving quality and production goals.
- Perform detailed failure analysis, including:
- Replicating product failures and customer complaints.
- Troubleshooting to root cause.
- Validating findings within the affected population.
- Recommending and implementing corrective solutions.
- Troubleshoot test stations and electronic assemblies using laboratory equipment.
- Support sustaining engineering activities and present test data, findings, and improvement plans.
- Support applicable ISO quality, environmental, health, safety, and security standards.
- Support site 6S initiatives and other engineering or manufacturing projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of experience in a similar engineering, electronics manufacturing, or test environment.
- Experience with manufacturing test methodologies including Flying Probe, ICT, Boundary Scan, and functional testing at board and system levels.
- Strong understanding of SMT and box-build manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and troubleshoot non-functional electronic products.
- Experience using oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, signal generators, signal analyzers, and other laboratory equipment.
- Knowledge of programming languages/platforms such as C++, C#, Java, Perl, AutoIt, Python, LabVIEW, or Visual Basic.
- Understanding of computer architecture, Windows operating systems, networking, and hardware/software installation. Linux experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of test equipment communication protocols including GPIB, RS-232, USB, I2C, and SPI.
- Strong component, PCB, and system-level troubleshooting and analysis skills.
- Understanding of analog, digital, and RF circuit analysis.
- Familiarity with PCB layout principles, CAD tools, and PCB viewer software.
- Understanding of electronic manufacturing documentation and processes.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing requirements.
- Ability to train to IPC-A-610 standards.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting customer-facing engineering or cross-functional manufacturing teams.
- Experience developing or maintaining automated test systems and functional test fixtures.
- Experience with PCB and system-level debugging in a high-volume or complex electronics manufacturing environment.
- PLD programming and electronic manufacturing equipment experience.
