Job Description
The mission of Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility (MSDF) is to protect the public, through the detention in a safe and secure environment, adults who are on community supervision. MSDF is committed to the successful reintegration of the persons in our care back to the community. This is achieved by focusing on accountability, programming and collaboration with community partners.
MSDF strives to promote an atmosphere of high standards for staff recruitment and retention, staff development and professionalism and shared leadership and responsibility among all staff. Responsibilities:
- Enforce Rules: Maintain institutional order and ensure that inmates follow facility regulations.
- Supervise Activities: Monitor daily inmate movements during meals, recreation, work details, and educational programs.
- Conduct Searches: Inspect cells, property, mail, and visitors for contraband like weapons or prohibited items.
- Perform Counts: Carry out regular head counts to verify that every person in custody is present.
- Transport Inmates: Escort individuals safely between holding areas, courtrooms, and medical facilities.
- Write Reports: Document daily logs, behavioral issues, and any safety incidents or rule violations
Requirements:
- Age: Must be at least 18 years old (some sheriff roles require 19+).
- Education: High School Diploma, HSED, or GED equivalent.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver's license required at application and maintained during employment.
- Residency: Must establish Wisconsin state residency within six (6) months of your start date.
- Character: Good moral character verified via fingerprinting and an extensive background investigation; no felony or domestic abuse convictions (unless pardoned)
