About the Role
Are you a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys working hands-on with financial data, solving discrepancies, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records? We are seeking a proactive Staff Accountant to join our team and support accounting operations across three locations.
Working closely with the Corporate Controller, this individual will play a key role in the month-end close process, general ledger maintenance, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, and treasury management. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, investigating discrepancies, meeting deadlines, and collaborating with management to maintain accurate and reliable financial information across a multi-site manufacturing environment.
What You'll Do
General Ledger & Month-End Close
- Support the month-end close process, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and within established deadlines.
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger across three locations.
- Prepare and post journal entries, recurring entries, and prepaid expense amortizations.
- Reconcile general ledger balances to supporting documentation, subledgers, and other financial records.
- Investigate missing transactions, unidentified balances, and discrepancies, taking appropriate steps to resolve issues.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for monthly financial reporting and audits.
Bank & Balance Sheet Reconciliations
- Prepare and complete bank reconciliations for three locations, comparing bank statements with general ledger balances and identifying discrepancies.
- Investigate outstanding checks, missing deposits, unrecorded transactions, loan payments, bank fees, and other reconciling items.
- Research and resolve reconciliation discrepancies by reviewing accounting system records, bank statements, transaction reports, and supporting documentation.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and maintain accurate supporting schedules for assigned accounts.
- Reconcile accounts receivable, accounts payable, loan balances, and other balance sheet accounts as applicable.
- Ensure large-dollar transactions and customer payments are accurately recorded, applied, and matched to the appropriate general ledger accounts.
- Collaborate with the Corporate Controller to review and finalize reconciliations.
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
- Support accounts payable and receivable activities, ensuring transactions are processed accurately and timely.
- Review invoices, purchase orders, and receiving documentation to verify accuracy and complete three-way matching when applicable.
- Investigate missing invoices, payment discrepancies, unapplied cash, and outstanding customer balances.
- Apply customer payments to the appropriate accounts receivable invoices and reconcile customer accounts.
- Research and resolve vendor and customer discrepancies by reviewing transaction history and supporting documentation.
- Assist with payment processing, account cleanup, and maintaining accurate subledger balances.
Treasury & Cash Management
- Assist with daily treasury operations, including cash monitoring, payment processing, and cash management activities.
- Support ACH and wire transfers, loan payment tracking, and other cash disbursements.
- Record and reconcile cash transactions to ensure bank activity is accurately reflected in the general ledger.
- Investigate discrepancies between bank activity, recorded transactions, and outstanding payments.
- Support cash application activities and ensure receipts and disbursements are properly documented.
Financial Analysis & Operational Support
- Analyze actual-versus-forecast expenses and investigate significant variances.
- Support physical inventory accuracy and assist with reconciling inventory records to financial data.
- Work with accounting and operational teams to resolve discrepancies across locations.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and increase efficiency.
- Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation for management review and audit requirements.
What We're Looking For
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
Experience
- 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Hands-on experience with month-end close, general ledger maintenance, and bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash applications, and treasury operations.
- Manufacturing or cost accounting experience is a significant plus.
- Experience working in a multi-location environment is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with ERP and accounting systems, including experience navigating financial modules and researching transactions.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word.
- Ability to reconcile large-dollar transactions and trace discrepancies between bank records, subledgers, and the general ledger.
- Familiarity with financial reporting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and standard accounting practices preferred.
Core Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies independently.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to financial accuracy.
- A hands-on approach to daily accounting responsibilities and the ability to take ownership of assigned tasks.
- Effective time management and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines, particularly during month-end close.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with the Corporate Controller and other departments.
- Ability to follow instructions, ask clarifying questions, and provide updates on progress or potential issues.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, on-site office and manufacturing environment.
