Job Description

The Non-CDL Truck Driver / Delivery Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of Loudoun Stairs products, materials, and equipment to residential and commercial job sites. This position is a hands-on role that includes loading, securing, transporting, unloading, and properly handling stair components, railings, metal products, and other materials.

The driver is responsible for protecting company products from damage throughout the loading, transportation, and delivery process while maintaining safe driving and material-handling practices. Because drivers frequently interact with customers, builders, contractors, and job-site personnel, professionalism and courteous communication are essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate company-owned non-CDL trucks and delivery vehicles in accordance with company policies and all applicable traffic and safety regulations.
  • Load and unload stair components, railings, metal products, hardware, equipment, and other company materials.
  • Perform frequent manual lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and positioning of products during loading and delivery.
  • Work cooperatively with other employees when handling large, heavy, long, or awkward materials that require team lifting.
  • Properly position, secure, strap, and protect loads before transportation to prevent shifting, damage, or loss.
  • Verify materials and products against delivery paperwork before leaving the facility and upon delivery.
  • Inspect loads prior to departure to ensure materials are properly secured and the vehicle can be operated safely.
  • Deliver materials to residential and commercial construction sites throughout the company’s service area.
  • Safely navigate active construction sites, residential properties, loading areas, and other delivery locations.
  • Determine safe and appropriate unloading locations while avoiding damage to customer property, company products, and surrounding structures.
  • Follow customer, builder, contractor, and job-site requirements when making deliveries.
  • Obtain delivery confirmations, signatures, photographs, or other documentation when required.
  • Immediately report damaged products, missing materials, delivery discrepancies, vehicle damage, accidents, unsafe job-site conditions, or other concerns to management.
  • Complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Monitor basic vehicle condition, including tires, lights, mirrors, fluids, safety equipment, and load-securing equipment.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of assigned company vehicles.
  • Promptly report vehicle maintenance or repair needs.
  • Maintain accurate delivery records, vehicle inspection documentation, mileage records, and other required paperwork.
  • Follow all Loudoun Stairs safety policies, procedures, and required personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Assist with warehouse, loading, staging, and material-handling duties when not actively making deliveries.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and ability to pass a DOT physical.
  • Previous delivery, truck driving, construction, warehouse, or material-handling experience preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow delivery paperwork, written instructions, and verbal directions.
  • Ability to use GPS/navigation systems and safely plan delivery routes.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
  • Professional and courteous communication skills when interacting with customers, builders, contractors, coworkers, and the public.

Physical Requirements:

This position is physically demanding and requires regular material handling throughout the workday. Employees must be able to:

  • Frequently lift, carry, push, pull, and maneuver materials weighing up to 100 pounds independently and heavier or oversized materials with appropriate assistance or material-handling equipment.
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, squat, kneel, climb, and use stairs.
  • Safely enter and exit trucks multiple times throughout the workday.
  • Maintain sufficient balance, coordination, strength, and mobility to safely load and unload materials.
  • Safely handle long, bulky, and awkwardly shaped products, including stair and railing components.
  • Perform work for extended periods in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Employees are expected to request assistance and use team-lifting techniques or appropriate material-handling equipment when an item cannot be safely handled by one person.

Work Environment:

This position requires work in a combination of warehouse, manufacturing, outdoor, vehicle, residential construction, and commercial construction environments.

Employees may be exposed to changing weather conditions, temperature extremes, dust, noise, uneven terrain, active construction areas, moving vehicles and equipment, and other conditions commonly associated with manufacturing and construction environments.

Required PPE must be worn as designated by Loudoun Stairs and applicable job-site requirements.

Safety Responsibilities:

Safety is an essential responsibility of this position. The employee is expected to:

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Use proper lifting and material-handling techniques.
  • Inspect and properly secure loads before operating a vehicle.
  • Wear required PPE.
  • Follow applicable job-site safety requirements.
  • Immediately report accidents, injuries, property damage, product damage, vehicle concerns, and unsafe conditions.
  • Stop work and contact management when a task or delivery cannot be completed safely.

Driving Requirements:

Employment in this position requires maintaining a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record consistent with company insurance requirements. Employees must immediately notify management of any change in license status or driving privileges that could affect their ability to perform the position.

This position does not require a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL); however, employees must possess a DOT certification and be qualified and authorized by Loudoun Stairs to operate the specific company vehicle assigned.

Loudoun Stairs reserves the right to assign additional duties and responsibilities consistent with the needs of the company.
