Kinkaid Civil Construction (KCC) is a 100% employee-owned heavy civil contractor specializing in underground wet utilities, earthwork, grading, and roadway infrastructure.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Surveyor to support our growing Utah operations. This position will provide construction surveying, layout, staking, grade control, and field support for heavy civil projects throughout the Salt Lake City area.

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on construction surveying experience and can independently support underground utility, earthwork, grading, and roadway projects while working closely with Superintendents, Foremen, Project Engineers, Project Managers, and field crews.

Position Summary

The Senior Surveyor is responsible for accurate construction layout and surveying throughout all phases of assigned projects. This position establishes and maintains survey control, performs field layout and staking, verifies grades and elevations, completes as-built surveys, and provides survey information needed by field crews.

The Senior Surveyor must be able to read and interpret civil construction plans and translate design information into accurate field layout. This is a hands-on field position requiring strong technical surveying skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in an active heavy civil construction environment.

This position may also provide guidance and technical support to less-experienced survey personnel.

  • Experience with underground wet utilities, earthwork, grading, roadway, or civil infrastructure construction preferred.
  • Ability to independently perform construction layout, staking, grade checking, and field calculations.
  • Strong understanding of horizontal and vertical control, elevations, coordinates, slopes, offsets, and alignments.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans, profiles, cross-sections, and specifications.
  • Experience with utility layout, construction staking, topographic surveys, and as-built surveys.
  • Experience using GPS/GNSS equipment, robotic total stations, and electronic data collectors.
  • Experience with Trimble equipment and software preferred.
  • GPS machine-control experience is a plus.
  • Strong mathematical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in an active construction environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field crews and project-management personnel.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
