Job Description
We’re seeking a Field Application Engineer with hands-on experience in automation for industrial manufacturing processes, including welding, grinding, sanding, polishing, painting, laser depainting, and finishing. This role bridges technology and real-world manufacturing, helping our customers transform manual operations into efficient, automated operations with cutting-edge proprietary technology for autonomous robotics.
You’ll interface directly with end users, internal engineering teams, and business development teams to evaluate customer applications, define technical approaches, and develop automated process solutions using our advanced multi-tool robotic platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site application evaluations with business development (approximately 30% travel) to understand customer challenges and identify automation opportunities.
· Use the scientific method to plan, execute, and communicate results of feasibility, optimization, and qualification studies in-house and with customers.
- Generate system specifications and configurations of systems to meet customer needs.
- Support system commissioning, training, testing, and troubleshooting both in-house and at customer facilities.
- Execute verification and validation testing for robotic systems to ensure software and hardware meet performance specifications.
- Provide feedback to engineering and product development teams to continuously improve system performance and usability.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Weld Engineering, Robotic/Automation or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent hands-on experience).
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing — ideally within grinding, sanding, polishing, painting, deburring, or related surface treatment applications.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills — comfortable interfacing with shop floor operators and senior leadership alike.
- Ability to travel up to 30% (domestic, occasional international).
- Must be a proactive, collaborative problem-solver who thrives in fast-paced, technical environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in robotics and/or automation.
- Experience interacting with and communicating with operators, engineers, and executive leadership across diverse industrial sectors.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and curiosity for process improvement.
- Driven by hands-on technical challenges and customer success.
- Familiarity with robotic integration, toolpath programming, and process optimization for industrial automation.
- Experience with CAD software, ROI calculations, and time studies.
