About this job
This role focuses on designing and developing electromechanical products, including motors and human-machine interface components, for demanding applications in space, military, aerospace, and oil and gas industries. The Mechanical Design Engineer creates detailed CAD models and drawings, performs structural and thermal analyses, and supports the full product lifecycle from concept through manufacturing and test. The engineer works closely with cross-functional teams and customers to ensure designs meet technical, quality, and schedule requirements.
Responsibilities- Create detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings for brush and brushless DC motors, AC induction motors, stepper motors, resolvers, and HMI products such as push buttons, panels, and RF electromechanical switches.
- Provide engineering technical support and design input for projects, including part design for components such as shafts and housings, and selection of bearings and lubrication.
- Review customer specifications, interpret technical requirements, and support or lead customer design reviews, including Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), Manufacturing Readiness Reviews (MRR), and Test Readiness Reviews (TRR).
- Perform structural and thermal analyses using calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools, and present findings and recommendations to internal teams and external customers.
- Conduct tolerance stack-up and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) analyses, review engineering drawings for accuracy and completeness, and approve drawings for release.
- Assist with the conception, development, and implementation of manufacturing processes that support new and existing product designs.
- Create clear technical documentation for procedures and processes to support manufacturing, test, and quality activities.
- Collaborate closely with purchasing, production, quality, contract management, and external vendors to define schedules, track progress, and ensure customer requirements and deadlines are met.
- Support engineering change processes by incorporating redlines, managing engineering change orders, and updating CAD models and drawings accordingly.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in design and manufacturing methods to enhance product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while maintaining high standards of technical quality and documentation.
- Perform other related engineering assignments as needed to support product development, production, and customer requirements.
- Demonstrated knowledge of design, manufacturing, assembly, and test processes, including work measurement and work standards.
- Experience in machine design, including materials selection and tolerance analysis.
- Mechanical design experience with electromechanical products, particularly motors and resolver technology, including their components.
- Expertise with 3D solid modeling software, with strong preference for SolidWorks.
- Proficiency in CAD modeling and creating detailed engineering drawings.
- Ability to perform and interpret tolerance analysis and apply GD&T principles.
- Experience reviewing, redlining, and approving engineering drawings and documentation.
- Experience working with electromechanical products such as motors and HMI components.
- Demonstrated analytical skills, including the ability to plan work, resolve problems effectively, and establish priorities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers and represent the company in a professional manner.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects smoothly in a dynamic environment.
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 35 years of experience in engineering functions aligned with mechanical design and electromechanical product development.
- Mechanical design background in electromechanical motors and resolver technology is a plus.
- Prior experience with ISO 9000 or AS 9000 quality management environments is a plus.
- Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license is not required but is considered an advantage.
- Experience participating in or leading customer design reviews such as PDR, CDR, MRR, and TRR.
- Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural and thermal analysis.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including purchasing, production, quality, contract management, and external vendors.
- High level of flexibility, energy, and adaptability in handling changing priorities and multiple concurrent assignments.
