Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Plant Manager to lead daily operations at a high-volume manufacturing facility in Chicago. This role oversees production, quality, maintenance, staffing, safety, and plant performance. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can develop teams, improve processes, and deliver consistent results.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily plant operations to meet production, quality, and delivery goals.
- Manage and develop hourly and salaried employees across production, quality, and maintenance.
- Set production schedules and staffing plans that support efficient use of labor and equipment.
- Use lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste, control costs, and increase throughput.
- Monitor labor efficiency, scrap, downtime, and other plant performance measures.
- Maintain compliance with applicable workplace safety and environmental requirements, including OSHA and EPA regulations.
- Partner with procurement, product development, and operations leaders on materials, capacity planning, and new product launches.
- Lead hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management.
- Communicate plant results, risks, and improvement opportunities to senior leadership.
Qualifications
- At least 7 years of progressive manufacturing operations experience, including 3 or more years as a Plant Manager or General Manager.
- Experience leading a large hourly workforce in a high-volume production environment.
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methods.
- Experience managing plant budgets and production costs.
- Knowledge of workplace safety and environmental requirements.
- Strong communication and team leadership skills.
- Bilingual English and Spanish skills strongly preferred.
- Experience in mattress, furniture, or soft goods manufacturing is a plus.
