Bowden Living is the property management subsidiary of The Bowden Companies, a family of companies headquartered in Phenix City, Alabama, purpose-built around multifamily real estate excellence. Alongside Bowden Development and Bowden Contractors, Bowden Living delivers best-in-class residential experiences across the Southeast and beyond. We are a company grounded in integrity, driven by innovation, and committed to the people we serve — both residents and associates.

About the role

The Assistant Community Director is a leadership development role that serves as second-in-command of a Bowden Living community. The ACD partners with the Community Director in leasing, resident experience, administrative operations, and financial accuracy, while stepping into full property leadership when needed. Designed as a direct path to a Community Director position, this role offers real accountability, visibility, and opportunity for advancement for individuals serious about building a career in multifamily property management.

What you'll do

  • Support the Community Director in the day-to-day operation of the community, stepping into a leadership role when needed.
  • Perform all aspects of leasing, including prospect follow-up, community tours, applications, lease execution, renewals, and resident move-ins.
  • Monitor leasing activity, occupancy, renewals, traffic, and conversion trends to help achieve community performance goals.
  • Manage resident accounts, rent collections, late notices, vendor invoices, purchasing, and other property-level financial administration.
  • Deliver an exceptional resident experience by responding to concerns, coordinating service needs, supporting resident events, and promoting resident retention.
  • Maintain accurate resident, leasing, financial, and operational records in Entrata and other Bowden Living systems.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisor on make-ready activity, vacant unit status, work orders, and overall community appearance.
  • Assist with property inspections and ensure the leasing office, amenities, common areas, and grounds consistently meet Bowden Living standards.
  • Support, train, and mentor Leasing Consultants while helping coordinate schedules, onboarding, and daily leasing activities.
  • Assume community leadership responsibilities in the Community Director’s absence, including team oversight, operational decisions, and communication with regional leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with Fair Housing requirements, landlord-tenant laws, lease requirements, company policies, and documentation standards.
  • Identify and promptly escalate compliance concerns, resident issues, or potential liability matters.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development with the goal of building readiness for future Community Director opportunities.
  • Represent Bowden Living’s values and commitment to Enhancing Everyday Living in every interaction with residents, prospects, associates, and vendors.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of multifamily leasing or property management experience.
  • Demonstrated leasing performance — consistent in converting traffic to leases and residents to renewals.
  • Working knowledge of Fair Housing laws and multifamily compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with property management software — Entrata experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong administrative skills with high attention to accuracy in financial posting and record keeping.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a warm, professional presence.
  • Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple priorities independently.
