Job Description
Position Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse II
(ER RN II)
Department: Emergency Department
Reports To: Emergency Department Manager / Chief Nursing Officer
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
$42.40-$49.80/Hr.
$5,000.00 Sign on bonus with 2-year commitment
Position Summary
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse II (ER RN II) provides comprehensive emergency nursing care with minimal supervision and demonstrates proficiency in patient assessment, triage, treatment, and care coordination.
Essential Functions
- Perform patient assessments and reassessments according to hospital policy
- Provide direct nursing care to emergency patients across the lifespan
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
- Document patient care accurately in the electronic medical record
- Assist with emergency procedures and interventions
- Participate in patient and family education
- Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary team members
- Respond appropriately to changes in patient condition
- Maintain patient confidentiality and safety
- Follow infection prevention and safety protocols
- Support department workflow and patient throughput
- Perform other duties as assigned
Position Standards
- Functions independently within the Emergency Department
- Demonstrates proficiency in emergency nursing skills and triage
- Independently manages full patient assignments
- Serves as a resource to less experienced staff
- Demonstrates initiative in supporting unit operations and team success
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Experience: Demonstrated competency to independently perform all essential functions of the position
- Licensure/Certifications:
- Current Virginia RN License
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS required

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods throughout the workday
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Manual dexterity to perform patient care tasks, operate medical equipment, and complete documentation
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, grasp, and assist with patient movement or transfers
- Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to assess patients, monitor equipment, and respond to patient care needs
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations and changing patient conditions
- Ability to function in a physically and emotionally demanding healthcare environment
Working Conditions
- Work performed in an emergency, inpatient, and/or clinical hospital setting
- Frequent interaction with patients, families, providers, and healthcare team members
- Exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, medical waste, chemicals, and other healthcare-related hazards
- Requires adherence to infection control, safety, and PPE requirements
- Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions, changing priorities, and urgent patient care needs
- May require day, night, weekend, holiday, on-call, or extended shifts based on operational needs
- May require floating or cross-training to other nursing departments based on competency and staffing needs
- May involve stressful situations, including emergency care, critical illness, death, and conflict situations
