The Opportunity
We're seeking an Assistant Mechanical Project Manager in High Point, North Carolina, to support mechanical construction projects throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Our client, a mechanical construction organization supporting off-site constructed equipment projects, is looking for a detail-oriented construction professional ready to build a career in mechanical project management.
This is an opportunity for someone with HVAC, piping, plumbing, or mechanical construction experience to gain exposure to the complete project lifecycle—from estimating turnover and material coordination through fabrication, documentation, installation coordination, and equipment startup.
Working alongside experienced Project Managers, you'll help maintain project schedules, manage critical documentation, track costs, and coordinate with production teams, engineering, vendors, and subcontractors.
What You'll Do
- Support Mechanical Project Managers with day-to-day project coordination, scheduling, documentation, and reporting.
- Assist with project handoffs from estimating and organize contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Review bills of materials for piping, panels, structural steel, and other mechanical equipment components.
- Assist with material takeoffs, vendor quote comparisons, purchasing coordination, and long-lead equipment tracking.
- Prepare and manage project submittals, approval logs, and associated schedule requirements.
- Coordinate with production teams to monitor fabrication progress and ensure parts are released according to project schedules.
- Support schedule development, including Touchplan coordination, engineering deadlines, and drafting deliverables.
- Help track project costs, price change orders, and maintain project cost reporting.
- Assemble operating and maintenance manuals, closeout documentation, and project turnover packages.
- Participate in project meetings, document action items, and communicate project updates.
- Assist with contract compliance, subcontractor coordination, and construction quality requirements.
What You Bring
- Ideally, 3–5 years of experience in mechanical construction, HVAC, piping, plumbing, or project coordination.
- A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or five or more years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
- Practical understanding of mechanical construction documents, material requirements, and project schedules.
- Knowledge of construction cost tracking, contract administration, and change management.
- Experience with or familiarity with tools such as Primavera, Bluebeam, Procore, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
- Familiarity with ERP platforms such as Viewpoint, CMiC, or Spectrum.
- OSHA 10 training.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Confidence working independently while collaborating with multiple project stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel throughout the assigned three-state project territory.
Experience with 3D CAD, off-site equipment fabrication, and mechanical construction production processes is an advantage.
