JOB DESCRIPTION:

A construction estimator plays a critical role in the construction industry by

analyzing project specifications, blueprints, and other documentation to

estimate the materials, labor, and equipment needed to complete a

construction project.

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Project Review: Review project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to

understand the scope, requirements, and timelines of the construction project.

  • Material and Labor Estimation: Estimate the quantities and costs of materials, such as concrete,

steel, lumber, and equipment required for the project. Also, estimate the labor costs, including

wages, benefits, and overhead expenses for construction workers.

  • Cost Analysis: Analyze and evaluate project costs based on factors such as materials, labor,

equipment, subcontractor bids, permits, taxes, insurance, and other expenses. Create cost

breakdowns and budgets for the project.

  • Bid Preparation: Prepare accurate and competitive bids or proposals for construction projects

based on the cost estimates, project requirements, and market conditions. This may involve

working with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain pricing and proposals.

  • Value Engineering: Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to suggest

cost effective alternatives or value engineering solutions that maintain quality while reducing

costs.

  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and uncertainties that could impact project costs and

timelines. Develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure project success.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of cost estimates, bids, contracts, and

project documents. Prepare and present reports, cost analyses, and progress updates to

project stakeholders.

  • Cost Tracking: Monitor and track actual project costs against estimated budgets throughout

the construction process. Identify variances, analyze cost overruns or savings, and adjust, as

needed.

  • Software Proficiency: Utilize construction estimating software, spreadsheets, and other tools to

perform accurate calculations, create reports, and mange project data efficiently.

Continuous Learning: Stay updated with industry trends, building codes, material costs, and

construction methodologies to improve estimating accuracy and effectiveness.
