Shift: 2am - 10:30am (graveyard); weekends required

Job Description

The Warehouse Assembler efficiently scans, unloads, and loads packages from freight trucks into cargo containers for air transportation. This role focuses on safely handling packages, organizing them to maximize container space, and maintaining accurate inventory using scanning and tracking systems in a airport warehouse environment.

Responsibilities

  • Unload packages from incoming trucks onto the warehouse floor and prepare them for loading.
  • Break down and remove packages from carts and transfer them into cargo containers for airline transportation.
  • Assemble and stack packages inside cargo containers in a highly organized, Tetris-style manner to maximize space and package occupancy.
  • Consolidate small boxes and mail into larger bags and load them onto cargo containers.
  • Use scanners and RF scanning systems to maintain accurate inventory and tracking records.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures while handling freight and operating in the warehouse and ramp areas.
  • Perform basic quality control checks to ensure packages are correctly loaded and secured for air transport.
  • Collaborate with team members to coordinate loading and unloading activities efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and leads to address issues, clarify instructions, and support smooth workflow.
  • Support general warehouse labor tasks such as material handling, palletizing, order picking, and organizing work areas as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with loading and unloading trucks or working as a ramp agent, cargo handler, or warehouse worker.
  • Proficiency with material handling tasks, including lifting, moving, and organizing packages.
  • Ability to use scanners and RF scanning devices for inventory and tracking.
  • Familiarity with warehouse functions such as palletizing, inventory handling, and order picking.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely and repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Reliable transportation to and from Sacramento International Airport.
  • Strong attendance and punctuality, with the ability to adhere to a strict attendance policy.
  • Ability to work early morning hours and weekends as scheduled.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in general labor, warehouse packing, cargo handling, or similar roles.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced airport warehouse and ramp environment.
  • Ability to follow detailed loading patterns and instructions to optimize container space.
  • Willingness to obtain airport-related training and certificates as offered.
  • Openness to working day, swing, or overnight shifts, including weekends, based on operational needs.

Work Environment

This role is based on-site at a warehouse located at Sacramento International Airport. You will work in a physically demanding, environment where temperatures vary, with hot conditions in the summer and cold conditions in the winter. The standard shift runs from approximately 2:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and weekend work is required, with exact schedules provided during orientation. Future schedule changes may include day, swing, or overnight shifts depending on operational needs. The work involves frequent standing, walking, lifting, and moving packages and bags. Steel-toe boots that cover the ankle are required as part of the dress code for safety.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.50 - $19.50/hr.
