Job Description
Purpose of Position This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of all monitoring, controlling, and indicating devices in the plant. Maintains a detailed record of how loops are configured and interact with field equipment and the total control scheme of the plant. Technicians are expected to respond to callouts and work overtime when needed to support the operation of the plant. Technicians will be expected to learn the plant process and assist during startup of the facility. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions): To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of, but not limited to, the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform the job. Responsible for adhering to and supporting all company safety and environmental rules, policies, and procedures. Responsible for the programming, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the control systems in the plant. Responsible for the installation, calibration, repairs, and preventative maintenance of all field devices such as pressure gauges & transmitters, temperature elements and indicators, flow elements, indicators & transmitters, water and steam quality monitors, level indicating devices, and switches. Troubleshoots, calibrates and maintains electro-pneumatic converters, control valves, governor actuators, and position indicator to ensure trouble free plant operation. Inspects, calibrates and maintains the plant Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS). Records and maintains data as required to comply with environmental permit conditions. Makes updates to diagrams, drawings, calibration sheets, and other documents when changes and/or modifications are made. Performs confined space Attendant or Entrant duties as required. Responsible for the completion of special tasks and projects assigned by the Maintenance Manager or General Manager. Position Requirements: Position requires the completion of a Journeyman Level Apprenticeship Program and 2 years experience as a Journeyman Instrumentation Technician or 5 years Journeyman Level experience at a steam or power production facility. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and diagrams. Requires experience utilizing digital and analog, and computerized test equipment. Position requires an individual to read, write and comprehend the English language. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to communicate with others by radio, intercom, and telephone. Position requires an individual to possess the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Must be able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry, mass flow, thermocouple conversions, and electrical formulas including ohm’s law and power equations. Position requires an individual to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
