Insurance Defense Attorney

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of insurance defense and civil litigation matters from inception through resolution

• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and other legal documents

• Take and defend depositions involving parties, fact witnesses, and experts

• Conduct legal research, fact investigation, and case analysis

• Appear in state and federal courts for hearings and other proceedings

• Participate in mediations, settlement conferences, and settlement negotiations

• Prepare cases for trial and assist with trial strategy and preparation

• Provide timely and practical case evaluations and legal guidance to clients

• Communicate regularly with insurance carriers, insureds, claims professionals, opposing counsel, and other parties

• Analyze coverage-related issues and assist with coverage disputes when needed

• Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date case files

• Collaborate with attorneys and support staff while independently managing deadlines and priorities

Qualifications

• Active California Bar license and good standing required

• 2-5 years of litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense or a related civil litigation practice

• Strong understanding of civil litigation procedures and insurance defense

• Experience with discovery, motion practice, depositions, hearings, and/or mediations

• Strong legal research and writing skills, including case law analysis and statutory interpretation

• Excellent written and verbal advocacy skills

• Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities

• Ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly and practically

• Strong organizational and time-management skills

• Ability to manage multiple matters independently while working effectively as part of a team

• Professional, client-focused approach and commitment to high-quality legal work

• Experience with labor and employment matters involving insurance-related claims is a plus.
