Location: Rochester, NY
Duration: 13 Weeks (NO BENEFITS)
Shift: Evening Shift – 5 × 8-Hour Shifts
Shift Timing: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Weekly Travel Pay: $1,830–$1,930

We are seeking an experienced Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to assist surgeons and the surgical team with a wide range of surgical procedures across multiple specialties. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of operating room procedures, sterile techniques, surgical instrumentation, and infection prevention practices. The candidate must be able to support laparoscopic, robotic, and open surgical procedures while maintaining patient safety and an efficient surgical environment.
Key Responsibilities 1. Surgical Support- Assist surgeons and the surgical team during procedures across multiple specialties, including general, vascular, bariatric, ENT, colorectal, gynecological, orthopedic, neurological, thoracic, and urological surgery.
- Prepare the operating room, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies before procedures.
- Maintain the sterile field and follow established aseptic techniques throughout surgical procedures.
- Support laparoscopic, robotic-assisted, and open surgical procedures.
- Collaborate with surgeons, registered nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and efficient surgical operations.
- Follow established decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization procedures.
- Verify sterilization indicators and ensure surgical instruments are properly processed.
- Maintain aseptic technique and adhere to infection prevention protocols.
- Follow sharps safety procedures and maintain a safe operating room environment.
- Handle, label, and transfer surgical specimens accurately according to established protocols.
- Follow universal protocol requirements and participate in surgical time-out procedures.
- Verify surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment as required.
- Maintain compliance with patient safety standards and operating room procedures.
- Assist with laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgical procedures.
- Demonstrate familiarity with the Da Vinci Xi Surgical System.
- Prepare and manage surgical instrumentation and specialized equipment for various procedures.
- Ensure equipment and supplies are available and ready for use.
- Coordinate with the surgical team to support smooth operating room workflow.
- Demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Provide support for surgical operations and contribute to process improvement.
- Apply leadership and management experience to support effective teamwork and operational efficiency.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
- Exception: CST certification is not required for candidates who worked as surgical technologists in New York State before 2015, subject to applicable eligibility requirements.
- Minimum of 3 years of surgical technologist experience.
- Experience across multiple surgical specialties and a broad range of surgical procedures.
- Proficiency in general operating room procedures, including bariatric, vascular, ENT, gastrointestinal, gynecological, orthopedic, neurological, thoracic, and urological surgeries.
- Experience with laparoscopic-assisted procedures and robotic colorectal surgery.
- Knowledge of decontamination, sterilization processes, and sterilization indicators.
- Strong understanding of aseptic technique, sharps safety, specimen handling and labeling, and universal protocol/time-out procedures.
- Previous travel assignment experience is required; first-time travelers are not accepted.
- Additional surgical technologist experience beyond the minimum requirement.
- Familiarity with the Da Vinci Xi Surgical System.
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical records.
- Previous management or leadership experience.
- Experience supporting complex surgical procedures across multiple specialties.
- Evening shift: 3:00 PM–11:00 PM, five 8-hour shifts per week.
- Guaranteed 40 hours per week.
- On-call commitment of 6 shifts per each 8-week period, including weekends and holidays.
- Weekend and holiday availability is required.
- Candidates residing within 75 miles of the facility are not eligible.
- Scrubs are provided.
- Travel and housing reimbursements are not provided.
