Job Title: Field Supervisor
Pay: $36-47/HR
Location: Cedar Rapids, IA
POSITION SUMMARY
Work as a senior technical leader supporting project teams in the field. The Field Supervisor is primarily responsible for driving jobsite productivity, ensuring high-quality workmanship, and maintaining a safe work environment.
This position combines advanced trade expertise with project management practices to support the installation of structured cabling systems, data center infrastructure, and other specialty technology projects while meeting established schedules and quality standards.
The Field Supervisor leads onsite team members across projects of varying size and complexity, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
This position is approximately 70% field-based, with the remaining time dedicated to administrative and project coordination activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Core Responsibilities
- Promote a strong safety culture and follow applicable company, client, and jobsite safety policies and procedures.
- Support a positive, team-oriented workplace culture.
- Supervise and coordinate all aspects of field installation activities.
- Plan, organize, and direct personnel, materials, equipment, and other project resources.
- Read and interpret floor plans, construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Perform or oversee system testing, troubleshooting, and quality verification as required.
- Evaluate project requirements and validate the scope of work and project plan, implementing strategies that support productivity, quality, schedule, and customer expectations.
- Coordinate with project scheduling resources to maintain short-term look-ahead schedules and effectively plan labor, equipment, and material requirements.
- Provide accurate and timely project status updates to support scheduling, reporting, and communication with project leadership and customers.
- Serve as a technical resource and mentor to field technicians, helping develop technical capabilities and improve overall team performance.
- Collaborate with engineering and project personnel to identify appropriate equipment, materials, and installation methods.
- Identify recurring project issues, assist with root-cause analysis, and implement solutions to improve performance and reduce rework.
- Share lessons learned, proven practices, and process improvements across project teams.
- Provide coaching, development, and day-to-day guidance to technicians and other team members, including support with emerging technologies and evolving industry practices.
- Lead by example with respect to safety, professionalism, workmanship, communication, and accountability.
- Maintain proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business software, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Visio.
- Assist with workforce planning and time-off requests based on project workload and staffing requirements.
- Provide observations and feedback related to employee performance and development.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor in interactions with internal teams, customers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
Travel
- Must be willing and able to travel as required based on project needs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by leadership.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- OSHA 30 certification required within the initial onboarding period.
- BICSI Installer 2 Copper certification preferred.
- BICSI Installer 2 Fiber certification preferred.
- BICSI Certified Technician certification expected within the first year of employment.
Experience
- 3–6 years of experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, low-voltage systems, data center infrastructure, or a related construction/technical field.
- Experience working on large-scale data center or technology infrastructure projects, with an understanding of applicable quality, safety, and installation standards.
- At least 3 years of experience supervising, mentoring, or training field personnel, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to supervise, coach, and train field personnel while effectively organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work.
- Strong understanding of structured cabling systems, including pathways, spaces, horizontal cabling, copper and fiber backbones, cross-connects, interconnections, and testing.
- Ability to interpret and apply applicable codes, standards, specifications, and industry best practices.
- Familiarity with project management principles and generally accepted project management practices.
- Understanding of fundamental business and operational processes.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project teams and customers.
- Ability to develop and implement standardized work practices that help field teams consistently deliver high-quality results.
- Strong professional presence and communication skills.

- Working knowledge of construction and jobsite safety practices.
