Job Description
Sunset Hospice | Tucson, AZ
Full-Time | $85,000–$93,000 annually, based on experience
Make a meaningful difference for hospice patients and families with a predictable after-hours rotation, full-time benefits and a company-provided gas card for work-related travel.
Sunset Hospice is seeking a compassionate, dependable RN who is confident assessing patients, providing telephone guidance and making independent nursing visits.
Your Schedule
This position covers:
- Every other Wednesday: 5 p.m.–8:30 a.m. Thursday.
- Every Thursday: 5 p.m.–8 a.m. Friday.
- Every weekend: Friday at 5 p.m. through Sunday at 8:30 a.m., including continuous Saturday coverage.
- Tuesday IDG at 2 p.m. and scheduled flash calls: participation by phone or in person.
The regular rotation does not include Sunday coverage after 8:30 a.m., Monday nights or Tuesday nights. Required team meetings and calls occur outside the on-call rotation.
About the Role
At Sunset Hospice, compassionate care doesn’t stop after regular business hours. Our after-hours nurses provide calm, skilled and respectful support when patients and families need it most.
You will respond to calls, assess patient needs and provide in-person visits when clinically indicated. This position includes patient travel and hands-on nursing care; it is not telephone-only.
Call and visit volume varies. Some coverage periods have no calls, while others require multiple calls and visits. Nurses must remain available and responsive throughout their assigned coverage.
Responsibilities
- Assess and triage after-hours patient and family calls.
- Provide nursing visits for symptom management, changes in condition and end-of-life care.
- Complete after-hours admissions as needed.
- Educate and support patients, caregivers and families.
- Coordinate care with physicians and the interdisciplinary team.
- Communicate patient updates through handoffs, IDG and flash calls.
- Complete accurate, timely documentation.
- Follow hospice policies, procedures and regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Active, unrestricted RN license authorizing practice in Arizona.
- At least one year of nursing experience; hospice, home health or acute care experience preferred.
- Strong assessment, clinical judgment and telephone communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with the team.
- Reliable personal vehicle, valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance.
- Ability to travel to patient homes and facilities in the assigned Tucson-area territory.
- Spanish language skills preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
- $85,000–$93,000 annual salary, based on relevant experience.
- Health, dental and vision insurance.
- Paid time off.
- 401(k) matching.
- Company-provided gas card for work-related travel using your personal vehicle.
If you value compassionate care, clinical independence and a consistent after-hours schedule, we welcome your application.
