Job Description

Job Description
Been there. Fixed that. Still wondering who designed it that way.

If you’ve spent at least four years repairing vehicles, you probably have some stories. We’d like to hear them and what you’re looking for in your next shop.

I’m Jake, owner of HTC Automotive in Boulder. And you? You’re an experienced technician who can get good work done, communicate with the team, and care about the customer experience.  Someone who knows their way around a vehicle, recognizes when something isn’t right, and understands that “the bolt stopped turning” and “properly torqued” aren’t always the same thing.

What you’d be doing:

Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing customer vehicles. Following repair plans, documenting findings, checking your work, and helping cars move through the shop without leaving the next person to solve a mystery.

Tell us what you’re good at. Suspension? Engine work? Electrical? Finding the noise nobody else can hear until you’re in the passenger seat, doing 65mph uphill?

You don’t need to be the answer to every problem in the building. We have a diagnostic and quality-control foreman to work with. We do need you to know when to keep going, when to ask a question, and when to say, “We should look at this before we go any further.”

A few things we take seriously

  • Doing the approved repair correctly and verifying the result.
  • Use the specified torque and tightening procedure. Yes, that means getting the torque wrench out.
  • Following instructions and speaking up when you disagree or find something new.
  • Writing useful tech stories. “Fixed it” leaves a little too much to the imagination.
  • Showing up reliably and communicating when work gets held up.
  • Respecting customer vehicles, shared shop equipment, and other people’s tools.
  • Owning mistakes so we can address them and learn from them.

We can laugh about the job. We still have to do it well.

What kind of shop is HTC?

We’re an independent, owner-operated repair shop. Our reputation depends on customers trusting us with their vehicles and believing what we tell them.

Our service advisors handle customer communication and approvals.  Our diagnostic and quality-control foreman and I are available for technical direction and support. I bring 17 years of experience myself.  Your part is bringing skill, attention to detail, and follow-through to the work in front of you.

What we’re looking for

At least four years of hands-on automotive repair experience, confidence with a solid range of mechanical repairs, and comfort using digital repair orders, service information, and diagnostic equipment.

ASE certifications are welcome. So is being able to walk us through a difficult repair and explain how you figured it out.

Pride in your work. Do it right and show off your skill with all that effort you put in.

Schedule:

Currently Available Shifts
Mon - Fri 7:30a to 5:00p
or
Tues - Sat 7:30a to 5:00p
or
Evenings Mon - Fri 1:00p to 9:30p

The additional details you actually came here for (Like pay and benefits) are listed with this post, but you more than welcome to call and get more information.

You made it this far. Let’s have a conversation.

Send us your Resume or a short introduction. Tell us what you do well, what you want to learn, and what would make your next shop worth staying at.

And if you have a strong opinion about the location of a particular oil filter, we’ll probably understand.
