We are seeking a Senior Process Engineer to join our Florence, Alabama manufacturing team. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this role will serve as a key technical leader responsible for developing, optimizing, and implementing manufacturing processes that improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance. The Senior Process Engineer will play a critical role in supporting capital projects, process innovation, operational excellence initiatives, and the successful industrialization of new products and technologies.
Position Summary
The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for driving process improvements and leading engineering initiatives from concept through implementation. This individual will collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, Product Development, and Supply Chain teams to ensure manufacturing processes are safe, efficient, scalable, and capable of consistently meeting customer expectations. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in manufacturing process engineering, hands-on project leadership experience, and a passion for continuous improvement. Experience within extrusion, lamination, polymers, plastics, sheet, or film manufacturing environments is highly preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Process Engineering & Continuous Improvement
- Lead the design, development, optimization, and standardization of manufacturing processes to improve operational performance.
- Analyze production data and identify opportunities to increase throughput, improve quality, reduce waste, and enhance process reliability.
- Conduct root cause analyses and implement sustainable corrective actions for process-related challenges.
- Develop process controls, standard operating procedures, and best practices that drive consistency and operational excellence.
- Utilize Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and World Class Manufacturing (WCM) methodologies to improve process capability and reduce variability.
Capital Projects & Industrialization
- Lead capital and process improvement projects from initial concept through commissioning and startup.
- Develop project scopes, technical specifications, equipment requirements, budgets, and implementation plans.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure successful project execution.
- Support installation, validation, and startup activities for new equipment and manufacturing systems.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with business objectives.
Manufacturing & Technical Leadership
- Serve as a technical expert and resource for operations teams, providing hands-on support in daily manufacturing activities.
- Evaluate current manufacturing processes and identify innovative technologies and solutions to improve performance.
- Mentor junior engineers and support technical skill development across the organization.
- Lead and participate in cross-functional problem-solving teams focused on improving safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Partner closely with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) teams to ensure all equipment, processes, and project activities meet regulatory and company safety standards.
- Champion a culture of safety by proactively identifying risks and implementing preventative measures.
- Ensure quality requirements are incorporated into process design and manufacturing execution.
- Support continuous compliance with internal standards, customer requirements, and applicable regulations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 7+ years of process engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
- 7+ years of experience leading engineering or capital projects involving equipment installation and process implementation.
- Experience driving process improvements using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, World Class Manufacturing (WCM), or similar methodologies.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing process design and optimization.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
- Results-oriented mindset with a strong focus on continuous improvement.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, and standard engineering software tools.
- Self-motivated, innovative, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to spend significant time in a production environment supporting operations and project execution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with extrusion, lamination, coating, converting, or related manufacturing processes.
- Experience in polymer, plastics, sheet, or film manufacturing environments.
- Project Management experience involving significant capital investments.
- Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, PMP, or equivalent certification.
- Experience with manufacturing automation and process control systems.
