Heavy Equipment Operator

The Heavy Equipment Operator safely operates assigned construction equipment to support excavation, grading, utility installation, backfill, compaction, and material movement.

• Perform and document pre-use inspections and report defects or unsafe equipment immediately.
• Operate excavators, loaders, dozers, compactors, or other assigned equipment only when trained and authorized.
• Follow plans, survey marks, utility clearances, grades, work limits, and instructions from field supervision.
• Coordinate with spotters and ground crews and maintain safe swing areas and equipment separation.
• Support trenching, bedding placement, lifting, backfill, grading, and loading within approved procedures and equipment limits.
• Protect existing utilities, structures, surfaces, and completed work from avoidable damage.
• Record equipment hours, work performed, maintenance needs, and unusual conditions in required systems.
• Secure equipment at the end of the shift and follow shutdown, fueling, and site housekeeping procedures.
