Position Summary
You will diagnose die performance issues, correct and maintain extrusion dies, and work closely with press operators and quality to cut scrap and downtime. This is a hands on, shop floor role for someone with at least 5 years of die correction experience in aluminum extrusion.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate new and returning extrusion dies and correct them to produce profiles that meet print dimensions and surface requirements.
- Analyze trial pushes and production samples to diagnose defects such as uneven metal flow, wall thickness variation, twist, bow, angularity, die lines, tearing, and blisters.
- Adjust bearing lengths, choke and relief bearings, ports, bridges, and pockets using hand tools, grinders, files, and polishing equipment.
- Measure profiles and dies with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, radius and angle gauges, and optical comparators; interpret blueprints, profile drawings, and GD&T.
- Coordinate die trials with press operators and supervisors; recommend press parameters (billet temperature, ram speed, puller settings) to support die performance.
- Maintain die history and correction records so each die's performance, adjustments, and remaining life are documented and traceable.
- Inspect dies after use for wear, cracking, and washout; route dies for nitriding, cleaning (caustic), repair, or retirement.
- Partner with die designers and outside die suppliers to feed back correction findings and improve future designs.
- Prioritize the die queue to support the production schedule and minimize press downtime.
- Follow all safety, lockout/tagout, PPE, and quality system (ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 where applicable) procedures.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands on die correction experience in the aluminum extrusion industry.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, profile drawings, and tolerance callouts.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and die correction hand and power tools.
- Clear communication with operators, supervisors, and quality personnel.
- High school diploma or GED.
