Telephone Operator

The Telephone Operator supports a public safety or emergency communications environment by managing emergency and priority calls with accuracy, professionalism, and urgency. This role assists callers, routes communications appropriately, documents call activity, and escalates emergencies as needed.

Responsibilities

• Handle incoming emergency and priority calls professionally and efficiently.
• Route calls to the appropriate departments, personnel, or resources.
• Take accurate messages and relay information promptly.
• Assist callers by providing clear communication support.
• Escalate emergency situations according to established procedures.
• Log call details accurately and maintain complete records.
• Support effective communication across the public safety or emergency communications environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Entry-level experience in telephone operations.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Customer service skills.
• Active listening and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to multitask in a high-priority call environment.
• Professional telephone etiquette.
• Typing speed of 45 words per minute.
