Community Relations Specialist

We are looking for a Community Relations Specialist to support a non-profit organization in Patchogue, New York through strong public visibility and strategic outreach. This Long-term Contract position focuses on building meaningful connections with media outlets, community partners, and key stakeholders while helping shape clear and compelling public messaging. The ideal candidate will bring a thoughtful communication style, strong writing ability, and a proactive approach to promoting programs and initiatives.

Responsibilities:
• Build and maintain productive relationships with local and regional media contacts to strengthen community awareness.
• Create original press materials, including news releases, announcements, and messaging that reflect organizational goals.
• Develop and deliver targeted media outreach efforts that increase coverage opportunities for programs, events, and initiatives.
• Support public relations activities by coordinating communications that reinforce a positive and consistent public image.
• Partner with internal teams and external stakeholders to craft clear updates, promotional content, and audience-facing communications.
• Contribute to marketing and promotional campaigns that expand engagement across community channels.
• Track media interactions and communication outcomes to help refine outreach strategies and improve future efforts.• Demonstrated experience in public relations, media relations, or community outreach roles.
• Strong ability to write effective press releases, media pitches, and other clear communications.
• Experience working with stakeholder communications and managing external messaging with diplomacy and accuracy.
• Knowledge of marketing promotions and how they support visibility and audience engagement.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to tone, detail, and brand consistency.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, respond quickly to opportunities, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Background supporting non-profit, mission-driven, or community-focused organizations is preferred.
