Radiologic Technologist Job Description

The Radiologic Technologist performs various diagnostic imaging procedures, ensuring the highest standard of patient care and comfort. This role involves the usage of advanced imaging equipment and requires a commitment to safety and technology adherence.

Education & Experience

• Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology
• Minimum of 2 years of experience required

Certification/Licensure

• ARRT Radiography registration required
• IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required
• Approved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic radiographic, portable, c-arm, and fluoroscopic procedures.
• Review patients’ clinical history, ensuring appropriate orders and lab results are obtained.
• Provide patient education on procedures.
• Select and operate imaging equipment and accessories to successfully perform procedures.
• Position patients to best demonstrate the anatomical area of interest, ensuring patient comfort.
• Initiate basic life support when necessary.
• Determine radiographic technique and exposure factors.
• Follow ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure.
• Apply principles of radiation protection for patients, self, and others.
• Document XR/FL safety incidents and adverse events according to protocol.
• Process and review images for proper identification and quality control.
• Utilize radiology information systems (including PACS), complete required records and reports, and submit images for physician review.
• Assist with medical record/image sharing as necessary.
• Document all information pertinent to XR/FL procedures in the electronic medical record, including medication reconciliation.
• Provide instruction and support for radiography students and partners.
• Apply patient safety principles during procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
• Operate mobile radiologic equipment in various settings, including operating rooms and emergency rooms.
• Assist radiologists in fluoroscopic and special x-ray examinations.
• Prepare and assist in the administration of contrast media.
• Provide expert training to new technologists.
• Adjust and coordinate patient and staff schedules as required.
• Maintain expert level knowledge of electronic medical records, PACS, and imaging equipment.

Shift Information

• Night Shift (6:00 PM - 6:30 AM), with weekend coverage required.
• Holiday coverage required.

Certifications/Requirements

• BLS/BCLS certification is required.
• ARRT Radiography certification is required.
