Structural Steel Estimator

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive bids for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and fabrication projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of steel fabrication, construction drawings, material takeoffs, and project costs.

Key Responsibilities

• Review structural drawings, specifications, and project documents.
• Perform material takeoffs for beams, columns, joists, trusses, decking, stairs, railings, and miscellaneous metals.
• Develop estimates covering materials, fabrication labor, equipment, freight, and subcontractor costs.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing.
• Identify scope gaps, project risks, and potential cost discrepancies.
• Prepare detailed bids, proposals, and change order estimates.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, detailers, and fabrication teams.
• Ensure estimates are accurate, competitive, and profitable.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of structural steel or metal fabrication estimating experience.
• Strong ability to read and interpret structural drawings and specifications.
• Knowledge of steel shapes, fabrication processes, and construction methods.
• Experience with material takeoffs, labor calculations, and cost estimating.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; Bluebeam, Tekla, or similar software preferred.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Background

Experience with a structural steel fabricator, steel erector, miscellaneous metals contractor, or commercial/industrial steel contractor is highly preferred. Hands-on fabrication knowledge is a plus.
