Job Description

Opportunities Industrialization Center, Inc. (OIC) is seeking an experienced and engaging HR Training & Safety Specialist to help strengthen employee development, leadership capability, workplace safety, and emergency preparedness across our organization.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both developing people and building practical systems that keep employees safe. Working closely with the Vice President of People & Culture and Senior Director of HR Operations & Compliance, the Specialist will help bring OIC’s learning and development strategy to life while independently coordinating key components of the organization’s safety and emergency preparedness programs.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can confidently facilitate a room of employees or managers, coach leaders, conduct a safety walkthrough, identify a potential risk, and follow through until the issue is addressed.

What You’ll Do

  • Facilitate engaging training for employees and leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Partner with the VP of People & Culture to assess training needs and execute organization-wide employee and leadership development initiatives.
  • Support leadership and manager development through training, coaching, performance-management education, communication, accountability, conflict management, and other development topics.
  • Develop and adapt practical training materials, presentations, job aids, and facilitator resources.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and recommend improvements based on participation, feedback, knowledge checks, leader input, and other measures.
  • Maintain the organization-wide training calendar, LMS assignments, completion tracking, certifications, and required training records.
  • Support new hire orientation and onboarding through assigned safety, culture, policy, and employee-development content.
  • Coordinate OIC’s emergency preparedness program, including emergency action plans, drills, evacuation procedures, communications, and follow-up actions.
  • Conduct routine safety walkthroughs and identify hazards, operational gaps, and opportunities for corrective action.
  • Support safety audits, inspections, incident reviews, documentation, and corrective-action tracking.
  • Maintain safety records and support OSHA, DOT, fleet/vehicle safety, and other applicable workplace safety requirements in partnership with the Senior Director of HR Operations & Compliance.
  • Evaluate safety trends and incident patterns and recommend practical improvements to leadership.
  • Build collaborative relationships across OIC to strengthen participation, accountability, and adoption of safety and employee-development initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Occupational Safety, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Training & Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in workplace safety, safety training, emergency preparedness, occupational safety, training facilitation, or a related field; 4–5 years preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare, transportation, nonprofit, public-sector, or another regulated environment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of workplace safety practices, emergency preparedness, incident prevention, inspections, and safety program administration.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements; familiarity with DOT, fleet, or vehicle safety requirements is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate engaging training for adult learners and audiences at varying levels of an organization.
  • Strong coaching, presentation, communication, relationship-building, and project-management skills.
