Job Description
Automotive Quality Assurance Metrology Technician

Location: Fountain Inn, SC

Type: Three-month Contract position

Compensation: $19.00 – $21.00 per hour (based on proven work history)

Shifts:

  • A Shift: 6:45am – 5:30pm, six days per week
  • B Shift: 6:45pm – 5:30am, six days per week

Must have: At least one year in Automotive Quality with hands-on Gage R&R and proficiency using calipers, micrometers, and part-specific gages.

A day in this role

You begin by reviewing overnight production, selecting samples, and confirming they meet print specs using calipers, micrometers, and dedicated gauges. Mid-morning, you collaborate with a Quality Engineer to evaluate nonconforming material and determine disposition. Throughout the day, you log your findings, conduct scheduled process and product audits, and—when needed—deliver replacement parts to customer plants and perform incoming inspections. Before shift end, you publish a concise activity report and align with Production, Materials, Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Managers to share quality insights and next steps.

What you'll handle
  • Evaluate and disposition nonconforming materials with the Quality Engineer.
  • Complete scheduled internal audits for processes and products.
  • Measure components/products to verify conformance to specifications using calipers, micrometers, and part-specific gages.
  • Produce daily activity reports; deliver replacement parts to customer plants and perform incoming inspection, as required.
  • Record and retain supplier issues in the company quality system and initiate supplier returns as needed.
  • Execute required testing procedures and containment/sorting activities as applicable.
  • Support comprehensive Continuous Improvement (CI) across all corporate disciplines.
  • Participate in CI efforts (e.g., process improvements, nonconforming material separation/recycling) and initiatives that reduce cost of poor quality (Kaizen, cross-functional task force teams).
  • Communicate quality-related information to Production Supervisors, Materials, Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineers, Quality Engineers, and Managers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience using calipers and gages is required.
  • Familiar with Gage R&R and able to explain it in detail.
  • Background in testing, collecting parts, recording data, and communicating results.
  • High School Diploma or GED (Area of Study: General Studies). Equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Strong communication skills and basic Excel proficiency.
