Job Description

Gates Washer and Manufacturing is seeking

We are looking for an experienced Tool & Die Maker / Die Repair Specialist who can step into an active punch press operation and independently support production.

This is not an entry-level role. We need someone who understands stamping dies, can diagnose problems at the press, and knows how to repair, sharpen, adjust, and maintain tooling to keep production running.

What You'll Do

  • Troubleshoot and repair stamping dies used in punch press production
  • Sharpen, repair, and maintain punches, dies, and related tooling
  • Diagnose tooling problems at the press and determine the proper corrective action
  • Perform precision surface grinding and manual machining
  • Fit, assemble, and adjust die components
  • Read prints and work to close tolerances
  • Use micrometers, calipers, indicators, and other precision measuring tools
  • Support preventive maintenance and help improve tooling reliability
  • Work closely with production to reduce downtime and improve die performance
  • Document repairs and help build better tooling history and standards

Experience We Are Looking For

Strong experience in several of the following areas is important:

  • Tool & die making or die repair
  • Metal stamping and punch press tooling
  • Progressive, compound, or similar production dies
  • Surface grinding
  • Manual mills and lathes
  • Punch and die sharpening
  • Precision measurement and close-tolerance work
  • Troubleshooting tooling under production conditions

Centerless grinding experience is a strong plus, particularly experience producing or repairing punches and other tooling components.

The Environment

We are building a workplace where skilled people are respected, trusted, and encouraged to contribute ideas. We want someone who takes pride in the craft, works well with production, shares knowledge, and wants to help improve how the toolroom operates.

If you are an experienced tooling professional who enjoys solving problems and keeping presses running, we would like to talk with you.

Competitive compensation based on experience. We are willing to pay for the right person.
