Commodities Buyer

JW Hicks is looking for a capable, motivated Commodities Buyer to add to our team at our Knox, IN, location (this is in person, not remote). This person will monitor commodities markets, source, bid and negotiate contracts for procurement and delivery of needed products and services, maintain accurate records of all purchases and deliveries, and maintain inventory of items frequently used in production.

Responsibilities and Duties

Monitor and analyze commodities markets and global economic conditions to make informed purchase decisions

Participate in bidding and contracting negotiations to obtain best pricing and quality of goods

Manage supplier relationships and service level agreements

Identify, evaluate, monitor and manage suppliers to develop reliable sourcing

Track receipts and evaluate supplier delivery performance

Monitor and manage raw material inventories and order accordingly

Work with other departments to forecast required purchases

Develop and maintain periodic reports as needed.

Perform other duties as requested by supervisor

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Effective interpersonal skills

3-5 years’ experience with above responsibilities

Basic computer literacy and working knowledge of software programs commonly used in business including ERP and Office tools

Strong organizational skills

Awareness of packaging and transportation regulations, incoterms and methods by commodity type

Ability and willingness to learn

Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical and drug screen prior to employment
