Location: Sioux Falls, SD

Pay: $16-$18/hour

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7 am- 5 pm

The Custodian helps maintain a safe, clean, and orderly university environment by performing routine cleaning, basic maintenance support, and safe handling of supplies and chemicals. This role follows established cleaning schedules and safety procedures to ensure that all assigned areas are well maintained and free of hazards.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain the university facilities in good repair, supporting a safe, clean, and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors.
• Keep work and assignment areas free of hazardous conditions such as grease or oil spills, sawdust, and excess supplies.
• Follow daily cleaning schedules and procedures consistently and accurately.
• Ensure all assigned work areas are cleaned thoroughly and on time.
• Store tools, supplies, and equipment properly after each use to maintain organization and safety.
• Use and care for supplies and equipment responsibly to minimize waste and misuse.

Essential Skills:

• Experience performing general labor tasks in a facilities, custodial, housekeeping, janitorial, or environmental services setting.
• Proficiency in routine cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, and glass cleaning.
• Ability to clean and sanitize restrooms, laundries, and other high-use public areas.
• Ability to handle and use cleaning chemicals, compounds, and solvents in accordance with OSHA safety guidelines.
• Ability to maintain a safe work area by identifying and addressing hazards such as spills and clutter.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in custodial, housekeeping, janitorial, or environmental services work is beneficial.
• Comfort working in a university or institutional environment.
• Ability to manage multiple cleaning assignments and prioritize tasks throughout the shift.
• Strong attention to detail when maintaining cleanliness and safety standards.

Work Environment:

Custodians handle cleaning chemicals and solvents following OSHA guidelines and established safety procedures, and they are expected to maintain neat and orderly work areas.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sioux Falls, SD.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
