Job Description
Manufacturing Engineer
Shift: 1st Shift (Monday – Friday)
**8 hour shift flexible start time**
Salary: $120,000 – $130,000 per year
Manufacturing Engineer Role
The Manufacturing Engineer exists to program, optimize, and standardize precision CNC machining processes and tooling setups across a modern manufacturing plant. This individual serves as the floor-level technical authority, initially focusing on complex multi-axis mill-turn programming before expanding to legacy program optimization, fixturing design, and lean workflow implementation.
Manufacturing Engineer Responsibilities
- Program and configure advanced multi-axis CNC mill-turn machinery equipped with high-capacity tool hives and automated pallet-changing systems
- Evaluate and optimize legacy CNC programs across horizontal machining centers to improve feeds, speeds, and tool life while significantly compressing cycle times
- Design and implement custom workholding, fixtures, and cutting tool packages for large cast-iron gearboxes and cylindrical housings
- Create, maintain, and validate operational routings, sequence-of-operation sheets, and detailed in-process prints
- Lead lean manufacturing initiatives and visual shop-floor layouts to establish the new building as the plant's operational model shop
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and operational challenges directly on the production floor in real time
- Identify root causes and implement corrective actions to eliminate machining scrap, rework, and recurring process bottlenecks
- Apply Design for Manufacturability principles and contemporary machining strategies to support new product introductions
- Establish standard operating procedures, cutting tool specifications, and setup documentation for machine operators
- Collaborate across engineering, quality, and shop-floor teams to ensure all machined components comply with strict dimensional tolerances
Manufacturing Engineer Reporting Relationships
This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager and has no direct supervisory reports.
About You
- Hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline, or possess an equivalent combination of technical education and hands-on machining experience
- Possess 5 or more years of manufacturing engineering experience within precision machining, gearing, or heavy industrial equipment environments
- Demonstrate extensive proficiency in multi-axis CNC programming, including mill-turn and horizontal machining center platforms
- Exhibit comfort and hands-on familiarity programming and operating high-value, large-scale capital machine tools
- Display practical expertise in designing custom workholding, fixturing, and specialized tooling for cast-iron housings and mechanical drives
- Show a proven record of optimizing legacy machine code, tooling selections, and cutting parameters to drive measurable cycle-time reductions
- Maintain a practical foundation in lean manufacturing principles, 5S, and visual management to foster a model shop environment
- Utilize CAD/CAM software proficiently to generate operational routings, tool paths, and in-process manufacturing prints
- Apply structured root-cause analysis and problem-solving techniques to resolve machining anomalies under schedule deadlines
- Communicate and collaborate effectively across cross-functional engineering, quality, and production teams
Next Steps
If confidence with advanced CNC machinery and a lean continuous improvement mindset describes you, we would like to hear from you
