Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and prepare patients for examination and medical visits.
  • Obtain and document the patient's chief complaint, medical history, surgical history, medication history, allergies, family history, and social history as appropriate.
  • Record and update vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, height, weight, and BMI.
  • Review and update the patient's medication and allergy lists.
  • Obtain relevant information regarding the patient's current symptoms and health concerns.
  • Prepare the patient and medical record for the physician's evaluation.
  • Assist the Internal Medicine physician during patient visits and examinations as directed.
  • Communicate patient concerns and important clinical information to the physician promptly.
  • Assist with routine in-office clinical procedures within the employee's training, qualifications, and scope of practice.
  • Perform or assist with point-of-care testing and specimen collection as permitted by training and office protocols.
  • Assist with medication reconciliation and preventive-care screenings.
  • Help coordinate referrals, laboratory testing, imaging, follow-up appointments, and other patient-care needs.
  • Follow up on pending laboratory results, referrals, and other clinical tasks as directed by the physician or office management.
  • Assist patients with understanding instructions provided by the physician and direct them to appropriate resources.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Keep examination rooms clean, organized, and properly stocked.
  • Assist with infection-control and safety procedures.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, family members, pharmacies, laboratories, specialists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Help ensure that patients receive appropriate follow-up and that outstanding clinical needs are communicated to the physician.
  • Assist the office team with maintaining an efficient patient flow.
  • Perform other clinical and administrative duties as assigned.

Patient Care Responsibilities

The Clinical Assistant is expected to help identify and communicate patient needs to the physician. This may include recognizing changes in symptoms, medication concerns, abnormal vital signs, missed follow-ups, or other issues that require physician attention.

The Clinical Assistant does not independently diagnose or treat patients and will work under the direction and supervision of the physician and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, training, and scope of practice.

Qualifications

  • Foreign Medical Graduate (MBBS).

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with an Internal Medicine or Primary Care physician.
  • Experience with patient intake and medication reconciliation.
  • Experience obtaining vital signs and performing basic clinical testing.
  • Familiarity with referrals, laboratory orders, preventive-care screening, and follow-up coordination.
  • EMR/EHR experience.
  • Bilingual ability is a plus.

Work Environment
