Job Description

The children in our transitional foster care program came to the United States without a parent or guardian. Many are learning English while they adjust to a new home, and their school history often has to be pieced together from whatever records exist.

As Education Coordinator at Children's Community Programs of Connecticut (CCP), you make sure their education keeps moving the entire time they are with us, and that it goes with them when they leave.

Why You'll Love Working Here

CCP invests in the people who lead its programs. Here's what that looks like in practice:

•       Leadership development. Workshops, advanced training, and thought-leadership opportunities that grow your capacity as a leader.

•       Lunch & Learn sessions. Time with internal and external experts that broadens what you know beyond your own discipline.

•       Supervision that shows up. You'll report to the Assistant Program Manager, within a leadership structure that is organized, accessible, and committed to sustainable work expectations.

•       A voice in the organization. Culture committees give team members real influence over CCP's strategy and culture.

•       Room to sustain it. Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans cover you and your family. Quarterly wellness experiences and Summer Fridays keep a year-round role sustainable.

What You'll Do

Reporting to the Assistant Program Manager in CCP's Center for Refugee and Immigration Services (CRIS), you'll serve unaccompanied children referred by the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) and build a combination of expertise most education careers never touch.

Lead a team that spans instruction and operations

•       Supervise teachers and teacher assistants, along with the transportation and kitchen teams, setting clear expectations and providing guidance and training.

•       Build team practice that is safe, professional, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive.

•       Run transportation, meals, and the other daily services children rely on as part of one coordinated education program.

Master educational case coordination

•       Coordinate educational assessments and records review to establish each child's starting point.

•       Coordinate school enrollment and educational placement, and partner directly with schools on each child's needs.

•       Assemble transcripts, report cards, evaluations, IEPs and 504 Plans (the formal plans that secure special education services and accommodations).

•       Identify children who need academic, language, or special education support, and coordinate referrals.

•       Coordinate tutoring, homework help, literacy activities, and English-language learning through a culturally responsive lens.

•       Monitor attendance, participation, and progress, and communicate concerns to case managers and program leadership.

Build federal compliance and systems expertise

•       Maintain a monitor-ready education and program services system under ORR, state, and local requirements.

•       Contribute to continuous quality improvement and compliance across the program.

•       Represent education in case reviews and multidisciplinary meetings with case management, medical, and behavioral health team members.

•       Support educational transition planning when children change placements or are discharged, so their progress carries forward.

Together, this builds experience across instruction, special education coordination, English-language learner support, federal compliance, and multi-department supervision. This is a full-time, non-exempt position: 37.5 hours per week, year-round, weekday daytime, with any additional hours paid.

What You'll Bring To The Table

Required:

•       Master's degree in Education, Special Education, ESL/TESOL, or a related field

•       Valid Connecticut teaching certification. Educators certified in another U.S. state who are willing to obtain Connecticut certification through reciprocity are encouraged to apply.

•       Experience with curriculum development

•       Managerial or supervisory experience in an educational setting

•       Clear, effective communication with children, team members, schools, families, and outside providers

•       A self-motivated approach, strong organizational and time management skills, and the cultural competence to build trust with teachers, children, and foster families from many backgrounds

Preferred:

•       Experience working with immigrant or refugee populations

•       Experience supervising teachers or other education professionals

•       Experience coordinating educational services

•       Spanish-English bilingual proficiency

Compensation: $75,000 – $85,000 annually
