Job Description

A small, hands-on environmental consulting firm turning contaminated properties into safe places to live and work.

About the Role
Touchstone Environmental Geology is looking for a Project Geologist to manage environmental site assessments and investigations across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. You'll work directly with our Principal Geologist, run projects from fieldwork through final report, and play a central part in a growing team.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with ASTM E1527-21: site reconnaissance, records and database review, interviews, and report preparation
  • Plan and oversee Phase II and remedial investigations, including soil borings, monitoring well installation, and soil, groundwater, sub-slab vapor and indoor air sampling
  • Supervise drilling, GPR and excavation subcontractors in the field
  • Perform construction-phase environmental oversight and Community Air Monitoring (CAMP) on NYC OER, NYSDEC Brownfield Cleanup Program and spill sites
  • Prepare daily field reports, boring logs, data tables and site figures
  • Compare analytical results with NYSDEC Part 375 SCOs, TOGS 1.1.1 and NYSDOH soil vapor guidance
  • Write and assist with work plans (RIWPs, RAWPs), investigation reports and regulatory submittals
  • Coordinate with laboratories, subcontractors, clients and regulators
  • Help prepare proposals and cost estimates
  • Manage project schedules and budgets as you grow into the role

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Hydrogeology or a related field
  • At least 2 years of environmental consulting experience, including Phase I and Phase II ESAs
  • Hands-on field experience with drilling oversight and environmental sampling (soil, groundwater, soil vapor)
  • Working knowledge of NYSDEC DER-10 and New York regulatory programs (BCP, spill, NYC OER/VCP)
  • Current OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification, or the ability to obtain it
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to sites throughout NY, NJ and CT
  • Strong technical writing skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

Preferred

  • Geologist-in-Training (GIT) or working toward PG licensure
  • NJDEP or Connecticut DEEP program experience
  • Experience with AutoCAD, GIS or similar mapping software
  • Experience managing projects and client communication
