Accounting Manager

We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to support a service-focused organization in St. Charles, Illinois on a Contract basis. This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented accounting specialist who can confidently oversee daily financial operations, strengthen existing workflows, and provide clear reporting to leadership. The position will partner closely with a bookkeeper while guiding core accounting activities such as budgeting, close cycles, and financial oversight.

Responsibilities:

• Lead daily accounting operations and provide direction across core financial activities to ensure accuracy and consistency.

• Manage the month-end close process, including reviewing entries, reconciling accounts, and delivering timely financial results.

• Oversee general ledger activity and maintain reliable supporting documentation for all key transactions.

• Prepare and analyze financial reports, presenting meaningful updates and insights to executives and business owners.

• Develop budgets and monitor performance against financial plans to support informed decision-making.

• Partner with the bookkeeper to coordinate workload, improve efficiency, and maintain strong day-to-day execution.

• Identify gaps in current accounting workflows and implement practical process enhancements that improve control and productivity.

• Use QuickBooks Online and advanced Excel skills to organize financial data, support reporting, and streamline recurring tasks.

• Support audit readiness by maintaining accurate records and assisting with financial statement audit requirements.

• 5+ years of accounting experience, including leadership responsibility within an accounting function.

• Strong background in month-end close, general ledger management, journal entries, and account reconciliations.

• Experience preparing budgets and supporting financial reporting for management or ownership teams.

• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and advanced Excel skills for analysis, reporting, and data management.

• Solid understanding of GAAP accounting principles and financial controls.

• Ability to communicate financial information clearly and professionally to executives and non-financial stakeholders.

• Demonstrated success improving accounting processes and bringing a forward-thinking approach to operations.

The salary range for this position is $50/hour to $55/hour. Benefits available to contract/temporary professionals, include medical, vision, dental, and life and disability insurance.
