This opportunity centers on delivering direct instruction, communication, mobility, and personal care to a small group of seven students (ages 14-18) near Hyattsville, MD. Most students use wheelchairs for mobility and all rely on communication devices. With ongoing support from two dedicated paraeducators, a private duty nurse, and a service dog in the classroom, you’ll collaborate to ensure every learner’s needs are met both academically and medically.

This role is scheduled Monday through Friday, starting as soon as possible, with daily hours from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm. The assignment initially runs from 10/19–11/2, but could extend for the right educator or flex into other longer-term assignments. Dedicated planning time (one hour) and a 30-minute duty-free lunch are provided daily.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Current Maryland Special Education Teacher license with High School endorsement
  • Prior experience supporting students with multiple disabilities, including medical and mobility needs
  • Comfortable with lifts, transfers, and personal care duties
  • Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices and individualized instruction
  • Team-oriented mindset, working collaboratively with paraeducators, nurses, and other specialists

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized instructional plans
  • Facilitate communication through use of AAC devices
  • Support students’ mobility and personal care, ensuring safety at all times
  • Work closely with related service personnel and families
  • Monitor student progress and adjust strategies as needed

Be part of a committed group that values expertise, compassion, and teamwork. If you’re ready to make a difference in a well-resourced environment, we encourage you to submit your application today!

Compensation for this position ranges from $19.00 to $40.00. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals. Full details of our healthcare benefits plan can be found here. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
