Job Title: Embedded Software EngineerJob Description

This role focuses on designing, developing, operating, and maintaining embedded software and firmware components for safety-critical avionics mission computers and other complex engineering systems. You will apply rigorous software engineering standards, processes, and tools across the full system development life cycle, supporting applications such as laboratory simulation systems, flight control and display systems, avionics, mechanical and electrical systems, weapons armament, aircraft systems, mobile and ground-based defense systems, and space systems. The position involves close collaboration with customers, suppliers, application users, and cross-functional technical teams to deliver reliable, high-performance embedded solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and debug embedded software, including device drivers, boot loaders, and built-in-test libraries for safety-critical avionics mission computers.
  • Develop embedded software in C targeting the LynxOS and LynxElement Real-Time Operating Systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement software, FPGA, and hardware interfaces.
  • Integrate custom-designed hardware and FPGA components with embedded software in a laboratory environment.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of technical documentation for embedded software components.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and correct software defects to improve reliability and performance.
  • Perform performance validation and verification activities to ensure software meets system requirements.
  • Participate in certification activities, including requirements reviews and code reviews, to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, application users, and other technical and support personnel to clarify requirements and resolve technical issues.
  • Apply established software engineering standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience in embedded software development for safety-critical or real-time systems.
  • Strong proficiency in C programming for embedded systems.
  • Experience developing software for Real-Time Operating Systems, preferably LynxOS or LynxElement.
  • Hands-on experience with device driver development, boot loader implementation, and built-in-test libraries.
  • Ability to integrate embedded software with custom hardware and FPGA components.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams across software, FPGA, and hardware disciplines.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for embedded systems in a lab environment.
  • Familiarity with software verification, validation, and performance testing practices.
  • Experience participating in requirements and code reviews for quality and safety compliance.
  • Ability to follow and apply formal software engineering standards, processes, and procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with C++ and embedded C in complex engineering environments.
  • Background in avionics, aerospace, or other safety-critical domains.
  • Familiarity with laboratory simulation systems, flight control and display systems, or similar applications.
  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and weapons systems integration with embedded software.
  • Strong documentation skills and attention to detail in recording designs, test results, and issue resolutions.
  • Effective communication skills to interface with customers, suppliers, and multidisciplinary technical teams.
Work Environment

You will work in a highly technical, laboratory-based engineering environment focused on safety-critical embedded systems. The role involves hands-on integration and testing of embedded software with custom hardware and FPGA platforms, using real-time operating systems such as LynxOS and LynxElement. You will collaborate closely with software, hardware, and FPGA engineers, as well as with customers and other stakeholders, in a setting that emphasizes rigorous engineering standards, thorough documentation, and adherence to quality and safety requirements. The environment supports structured development processes, code and requirements reviews, and performance validation activities, with access to specialized lab equipment and tools needed for embedded software development and system integration.
