Job Title: Engineering Test Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on hands-on testing and support of battery systems and electronic hardware in a fast-paced lab and manufacturing environment. The Engineering Test Technician (Battery) sets up and executes computer-based test scripts, builds and maintains test fixtures and wire harnesses, and works directly with battery cells, power systems, and electronic test equipment. The position supports development, R&D, and production testing activities while following strict electrical safety practices and lab procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, run, monitor, stop, and re-run tests on batteries and electronic hardware using existing computer-based test scripts.
  • Build, modify, and maintain test fixtures to support battery and electronics testing.
  • Assemble and rework wire harnesses, including crimping, cable assembly, and basic harness fabrication.
  • Perform soldering on electronic components and test hardware to support test setup, repair, and rework.
  • Read and follow electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and test instructions to configure test setups correctly.
  • Use power supplies, oscilloscopes, and standard electronic lab equipment to perform measurements and validate test results.
  • Safely handle battery cells, battery hardware, and electronic components in a lab and manufacturing environment.
  • Troubleshoot test setups, interfaces, and hardware issues using electronics knowledge and Python/Linux-based test interfaces.
  • Support the operation and basic use of fabrication tools, including general hand tools, harness crimpers, and 3D printers for fixtures or lab support.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other technicians in a development, R&D, or test lab environment to execute test plans and improve test processes.
  • Document test activities, test setups, and any issues encountered to ensure accurate and traceable test records.
  • Follow established electrical safety practices for low- to moderate-voltage systems (up to approximately 60V) and maintain a safe, organized work area.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience working with electronics in a lab, testing, manufacturing, or R&D environment.
  • Proficiency in soldering electronic components and test hardware.
  • Experience working with batteries, battery cells, or power systems in a testing or lab context.
  • Working knowledge of electrical safety practices for low- to moderate-voltage systems (up to approximately 60V).
  • Ability to read and follow electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and written test plans or instructions.
  • Experience setting up, running, monitoring, stopping, and restarting tests using computer-based test scripts.
  • Experience building, modifying, or maintaining test fixtures for electronics and battery testing.
  • Experience with wire harness assembly, including crimping and basic cable fabrication.
  • Familiarity with power supplies and standard electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes.
  • Ability to safely handle electronic components and battery hardware in a lab environment without direct supervision.
  • Comfort using Python/Linux environments to run and troubleshoot test interfaces.
  • Strong electronics troubleshooting skills in a lab or test environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in rework of electronic assemblies.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools for understanding or supporting fixture or lab hardware (design experience not required).
  • Exposure to 3D printers and basic fabrication tools for creating or modifying test fixtures and lab supports.
  • Experience working in development, R&D, or test lab environments supporting new products or systems.
  • Experience with welding, if previously trained (not required for the role).
  • Comfort using general hand tools, harness crimpers, and standard lab equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a rapidly scaling aerospace or advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Interest in contributing to mission-driven work focused on advancing logistics and delivery technologies.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing shop and electronics test lab environment with a casual dress code. Work is performed primarily on a morning shift with a typical start time between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., with many opportunities for overtime. You will work hands-on with soldering equipment, power supplies, oscilloscopes, general hand tools, harness crimpers, computers for running test scripts, and standard lab equipment. The environment offers access to full machine shop capabilities, including CNC machines, mills, lathes, and laser cutters, as well as 3D printers and basic fabrication tools to support fixture and lab work. The culture emphasizes cutting-edge technology, technical skill development, and cross-training, with catered lunches provided daily and a strong track record of extending opportunities to high-performing team members.
